  1. Piazza shouldn't have been catching then as he was universally hated by every pitcher who ever threw to him and he sure as heck wouldn't be catching today.
  2. I don't dislike Grandal. He's a good offensive player. The problem is catcher is the one position where you can't out hit your defense. It's too important a position to the rest of the team.
  3. It's a great signing. I think the D'Backs gave up on him as a starter too early. I'd put him back in the rotation. He's also another guy who makes more money after being released.
  4. I don't know how he's going to improve his walk rate without showing at least some power. I'm pretty sure he saw the highest percentage of first pitch strikes because big league pitchers are not afraid of him. Throw him a fastball on the outer half. Worst case scenario is he slaps it the other way for a single. Oh well. He has to show he can do at least some damage or pitchers will continue to attack him with strikes he can't do anything with.
  5. Playing on turf covers up a lot of shortcomings (pun intended?)
  6. And I don't think that's ever going to happen.
  7. I'm trying to figure out why the Brewers would trade a young starting pitcher a year away from arbitration for a package of players that might actually make them worse.
  8. It also looks like they have him more rotational to fix opening up too early. Boy I hope they don't chase the mistake too much and forget what he does well.
  9. Interesting. Looks like he also adopted the Giolito short arm action. I wonder if that is going to start being the organization arm action.
  10. I heard about the signing yesterday afternoon. If those dopes are "insiders" why did they have to wait for Passan to break the news?
  11. The Padres pushed Cole Wilcox to the 3rd round signed him for $3.3M and just traded him to the Rays. Teams can and will trade their players whenever they want.
  12. Because relievers are so volatile you can't look at past performace to evaluate them. You have to look at the pitcher they are right now and Hendrik's is clearly the better reliever right now over Colome's fading stuff and high wire act.
  13. I think scouting departments have him viewed that way. Analytics departments may have him higher because they would value the contact rate higher.
