In 2018, the Braves reported an operating profit before depreciation and amortization of $94M. Last year, it was $54M--though after depreciation and amortization, plus stock compensation, the team showed a paper loss of $32M.

A very small percentage who again are not part of the union. Protecting contracts will protect the amateurs who actually make it to the big leagues.

They're protecting future MLB players. Amateur players are not part of the union. It sucks but it is what it is.

Once that door is open the owners will try to renegotiate any contract they're not happy with. When the players say they are protecting future players this is what they're referring to. They're protecting player contracts.

It's not a weird hill to die on it's THE hill to die on. Players individual contracts are based on a per game basis, If they give that up they give it up forever. This has always been about the players getting full pro rata. They will not negotate off that stance and have said so since day 1.

It's not frustrating at all. This was never going to be some free agent signing frenzy that for some reason people thought it would be. They have until Aug 1 to sign players. There is no rush. The only players signed are sr signs and a couple dumbass high schoolers. Fear not. They will sign guys you've never heard of and will never hear from again.

Then they should go to a JC. If they're good enough to sign with a pro organization they are obviously good enough to get a full scholarship from a D1 or D2 JC. Then they can figure out where to go from there rather then selling themselves off for cheap. They're going to report, take their physical and get sent home. They have a much better chance of having a fall and spring season in college than they do in pro ball. But there's a bigger reason why they shouldn't sign. The team they are signing with now has no commitment in them. MLB is going to cap how many minor leaguers an organization can have and when cutting time comes for the new draft picks and international signees guess who's at the top of the chopping block? The guys they didn't use a draft pick on and only have a $20k invested. The organization has no skin in the game. These HS guys signing as UFA are getting horrible advice and MLB and their agents should be ashamed of themselves.

These HS guys are getting some really bad advice.

If that were true you would think the owners would be more than happy to share the finacials to prove they were losing billions. Three months later and the players are still waiting for those documents.

The players are under no obligation to renegotiate what has already been agreed to. The players have negotiated plenty of bad deals and not once did the owners ever renegotiate under "good faith." The owners made a bad deal and are now holding their breath and stomping their feet until they their way ahile the players are holding thier feet to the fire as they should and all the mathmatical gymnastics, stall tactics or dirty negotiating in world is going to change that very simple fact.

They should have thought of that before they made the bad deal.

They're expecting full pay because that's what the two sides agreed to back in March. The Owners made a bad deal and now they're holding the baseball world hostage, furloughing employees, releasing/not paying players because they're mad. They can leak all the bullshit propaganda to the media they want but it's not going to change the fact that this is 100% their fault.

I absolutely love Crochet but I'm not nearly as high on Kelley as so many others are. Cole Wilcox was taken in the 3rd round. I would have much rather have him over Kelley. They also could have had two high upside HS pitchers like Ben Hernandez, Kyle Harrison or Carter Baumler for what they paid Kelley. We'll see how it works out but like I said this draft was so deep with high upside players I would have liked them get as many as possible.

Eugene Freedman has been an incredible source of knowledge throughout this entire "negotiation." This is even hard for me to believe. The owners are a buch of shitbags.
