I think they called it "shoulder fatigue" which is loosely translated to "we have to win some god damn conference games so we don't get our asses fired."

Pandemic Realignment: Sox in the Cactus League West
Harold's Leg Lift replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The vast majority of TV revenue is generated by the big market teams. They can not only afford it they will profit greatly. The small market teams would get killed. They will need a lot of help to break even. -
I don't see the Stinson comp. Stinson was two different pitchers as a starter and reliever. In short stints he was low to mid 90's and as a starter he was upper 80's t-90. He clearly lacked arm strength which is why he dropped to the 4th round. Arm strength is not a concern for Crochet. He has been ouchy but nothing arm related. If they knew the season would only be 4 weeks long he would have pitched from the get go but they held him back so he would be strong for conference play. I would love this pick.

Works for me.

Pandemic Realignment: Sox in the Cactus League West

In this scenario their expenses are also slashed so they would pocket millions while asking the players to take a cut. You can understand why this is an issue for the players union. Maybe the players take a cut and the owners agree to some sort of 1 year revenue sharing plan. That's a lot of compromising. -

Are the Dodgers owners also taking a paycut? -

Of course but the Dodgers will still make tons of money while small market teams will lose tons. I guess there's a chance for a compromise but if history tells us anything it's that these guys are really bad at compromising. -

All players take a paycut? Even Dodger players when the organization makes $1B in TV revenue? -

They wouldn't lose as much as they'd lose by missing an entire season. Players will be taking a cut on top of prorated salaries. And they'll take it because it's better than not getting paid at all. Teams are losing revenue now but teams with bad TV contracts would lose real money under this scenario. If a team has $100M payrolls and $50M in TV contracts they would lose $25M. Sure the big market teams will be fine but teams like Tampa, KC, Oakland, etc can't do it and the players already said they will not take a pay cut. -

The NFL can play games with no fans because the TV money is so large. Small market baseball teams would lose millions because the TV revenue doesn't come close to meeting payroll. The only way it could work is if teams agree to revenue sharing or players take a severe pay cut. Neither is going to happen. -

I don't think this will hapen. Too many teams will lose too much money. -
Ed was definitely the player most affected by the shutdown. If he came out this spring and showed he can consistently impact the baseball he would have been an easy top 10 pick. The Sox know him better than any other team so they may still take him at 11 but that would be very risky with so many good options available at that pick. It would also be a huge departure from their recent extreme risk averse draft strategy.

That's not something I'm too terribly worried about with this guy. He's big, strong, athletic and he does it really clean and easy. They can make little adjustments to help him add some deception or they could give him a 2 seamer or a different grip to make the ball cut. He checks a lot of boxes for me.
-
Detmers. Would be shocked if he's available at 11.
-
Howard is the best HS SS in the counrty. There's no way they can get him to the 2nd round.
-
Here's Cavalli. He's a big ole nasty son of a gun. That's Tanner Allen wearing him out. It's going to be interesting to see if he gets drafted this year.
-
He was a very nice man. RIP Farmio.

The Cubs literally hired a clown show.
-
Meyer scares me. Undersized right hander with a violent delivery. The Sox have been down that road before. Fool me once.....
-
Yep and the HS guys hoping to get drafted who are comitted to mid-majors will end up at JC's and hope to get picked next year. I'm surprised the NCAA granted a year to everyone but it doesn't help their pro prospects any. They will just be a year older and teams that use models do not like older players.

Yep especially if the NCAA isn't going to grant them another year of eligibility which knowing those assholes is the likely scenario. Manfred is a shortsighted whorebag. Rather than growing the game he's fucking over the players of the future so the billionaire owners can save a few bucks. They should all be ashamed of themselves.
-
If it's 10 rounds then they should definitely use last years strategy. College guy in the first and over slot HS guys in the 2nd and 3rd. The key will be rather than signing college Sr's in rounds 5-10 finding college juniors or JC's guys who want to play and are willing to sign for nothing. That's an example of an area scout really knowing his players.
-
Last year their 5th rounder signed for $10k. I think they would use the same strategy. Slot for the 1st, over slot 2nd and 3rd, under slot 4th and 5th. They obviously won't be able to over slot as much as last year on the 2nd and 3rd picks because they won't have the under slot money from rounds 6-10 but getting three good players out of this mess is about all you can hope for.
-
No doubt a player would be wise to look at an organization where he would have the best path to the big leagues but ultimately it will be on the area scout to convince him it's with his organization. I wonder how much these money grubbing fucks are even going to allocate for these players. They may just sign a few for $5k and call it a day.
