Just listened to Law's podcast with Logenhagen and they discussed Madrigal for several minutes. Logenhagen: "I think there is an argument that I especially have over-corrected on this type of player." Logenhagen: "He is not a 70 runner but the run times are often 70's." Law: "He has a very little ceiling. There is very little chance for this player to become a star." Law: "A player like that basically has to hit .320 to be valuable and the number of guys in the last 10 seasons who have hit .320 or better in the majors with an iso of under .100 which Madrigal is clearly going to do at this point is 1. Dee Gordan who is an 80 runner." Law: "if you can't make hard contact it's hard to hit over .300." Law: "if he were a SS if he were a CF, if he were a catcher if he were an 80 runner those would be considerations in his favor." Law: "I favor upside on my list."

Confirmed 8 months ago. ?
-
He was 2.3 years older than the avg player in AA.

There's a good chance 4-5 of these guys are better than last years top college arm Nick Lodolo. If I can get one of them at pick 11 there is no way I'm passing on that.
-
It's thinking like that that led them to pass on Jarred Kelenic.
-
Sorry about that mate.
-
Correct. Law's list is tools driven. Fangraphs tries to lean more towards tools but they also scout the stat line . BP is obviously stats driven. I have no idea what drives MLB Pipeline's list other than draft position and whoever actually answers Callis' phone calls.
-
The Sox haven't drafted a HS pitcher in the first round since 2001 and with such an incredibly deep pool of college arms I don't think this is the year to change that. Draft one next year when they will presumably have a later pick.
-
but they all have the potential to be and that's the point. It's a list of players who have the talent/tools to be great not a list of players who have the talent/tools to be average.
-
I love Keith Law.
-
It's gonna be fun to see how it all shakes out. I currently have 6 college pitchers going in the top 10 and that doesn't include Ginn (I'm not optimistic) , Crochet or Cavalli. I love Ed but I really want one of these college pitchers.

Lots of Dudes throwing like Dudes today.

I worked at Party City with a guy named Less Bunting.
-
I hate everything.
-
They're bypassing an OF corner pretty quick. He has some Jermaine Dye in him. Put him on a corner and let him rake.
-
Holy crap does this dude have a nice swing and he's 6'5"!?! That's some serious projection going on right there.
-
I think it was a 55 yard dash.
-
He ran a 5.9-6.1 60 huh. Boy that's really fast. Like shattering a world record fast.......
-
You may as well get ready now for the "he's a black player so Kenny Williams loves him" bullshit. It's going to be fast and furious this year.
-
Yeah Arkansas is better. He has to worry about getting cut there. Chief Wahoo loves the young ones. Blaze Jordan in the 1st and MacKenzie Wainwright in the 2nd.
-
Real good athlete. 2 way guy. Undersized right hander with big arm strength. I liked him better as a hitter. He has bat speed and can really run. I'm not sure he can stick at SS but he should be good in CF. I think he's a Vandy guy so not sure 2nd round money will do it.
-
Max Meyer was 97-99 with a 90-92 slider. I'm not a fan of the frame or the effort level but holy fuck does this dude have an electric arm.
-
That's a really bad comp. If you want to stay with the White Sox theme he's more like Jose Quintana.

FS: Rankings roundtable - writers' high/lows
Harold's Leg Lift replied to Rankin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He consistently hits the ball hard and is still just 22 yrs old. He also has plenty of athleticsm to make the neccessary adjustments to his swing. I'm not saying he's a lock but I'm not close to giving up on this dude. I think he can be an everyday corner OF. -
The system definitely needs an influx of athleticism/ceiling but they also need high end pitching. I think it's gonna be awfully hard for them to pass on a dude they can pencil in the rotation in a couple years. I'd like to see them pop a college pitcher at 1-11 and then load up on high school athletes the rest of the draft.
