I think the theory of trying to stash a guy on the big league roster then sending him back to the minors has proven to not work. Missing that year of development is just too much to overcome so teams are looking for guys who can at least contribute enough and stay on the big league roster going forward. Those guys are very rare to find. I think Victor Reyes is the only guy who has been somewhat worth the effort and that's even a stretch.

The Rangers changed their hitting philosophy. They want to get away from the big power high strike out low obp approach they've had. Gallo showed he can change his approach. Mazara did not. There will be others following him out the door.

He has to be willing to make the neccessary adjustments to get better. The Rangers tried and tried and tried and ultimately gave up on him. Not a good sign.

I really like that they traded for a young player rather than signing a 30 yr old free agent I just wish they would have traded for a better young player.
