I've never understood why this is considered a Kenny Williams thing. Every single team in baseball drafts multi-sport athletes. It's what scouts look for. I guess it gets hung on him because the Sox player development department is god awful and can't turn them into good players. Seems kinda silly when everyone in baseball is drafting the same players.
Oregon RHP Kenyon Yovan is coming back this weekend from a hand injury. He'd be a nice 2nd round target. Arkansas LHP Matt Cronin is a hard throwing closer, He may be able to be stretched out as a starter. If not he could be a nice multi-inning reliever.
Did he really say that? A 40 arm won't stop him from playing CF. There are a lot of CF's with 40 arms. Mike Trout has a 40 arm. All teams care about is if he has range to go get the ball. Arm strength is almost irrelevant.
Moncada is an uninterested defender. He was bad at 2B and he's going to be bad at 3B. He's following the Alfonso Soriano career path. He'll be in LF in a year or two. They couldn't go another season with Yolmer at 3B so they're just buying time until they find an everyday 3B.
His age doesn't scare me a whit. You can put him against 19, 20, 21, 22.... year olds and he's still going to be the best player on the field. Do you know why. Because he's really f'ing good at playing baseball.
I don't understand the fascination with proximity to the majors. It's not a race. It's which player will have the best/most impactful career. In my opinion a 5 WAR player in 3-4 years is worth more than a 2 WAR player in 1-2 years.
I'm out on Misner. I don't like his swing. Bishop is really interesting but I still have Bleday ahead of him. Bleday has better feel to hit and has a longer track record.
Arizona is going to be tough to deal with because they will have so much money to spend. It would be great if the Sox could push a guy like Quinn Priester to the 2nd round but Arizona has four picks before the Sox 2nd round selection. Even if the Sox are able to shave money off the 1st round pick Zona could grab him with one of those selections and still give him more money.
No they don't. They have Eloy and Robert and a few potential league average players. No one else is a potential superstar and Robert is a long shot to ever reach his ceiling. They do have a chance to select one this June and I hope they don't mess it up again by selecting another league avg player.
I disagree with the premise that any team is pleased selecting third.
