To support his narrative. Machado only had a 6 WAR in the past cuz of roids. If Machado turns it around this season or has a 6 WAR next season, JUSTgottaBELIEVE will go quietly into the night.
Name another free agent that will be better to go after anytime soon than two 26 year olds from last offseason. And before you say Rendon, he’s 2 years older than Machado and Harper so he would be a worse target on a long-term deal of 8+ years.
He’s trying hard to be right. In any case, the Sox last offseason pretty much sucked and they should have jumped to sign one of the two 26 year olds available. We will see if Hahn can make up for his failure next offseason.
Leury Garcia would cost an asset. They aren’t giving him away.
Both those trades were salary dumps. Leury is cheap and a pretty good player and would cost a team an asset.
Added qualifier: of players the Sox will have a chance at signing. ?
And I don’t even see the Sox considering Rendon with Moncada at 3B and Madrigal at 2B.
Rendon is also two years older than both Harper and Machado.
Rebuilding teams don’t want to trade for players with one year of control. They will sign free agents on one year deals looking to flip them at the deadline which will hopefully give them some additional young talent but also free up roster spots to call up their own prospects. But they don’t want to trade assets for players who have one year of control before free agency.
You have Luis Robert coming up to play CF. Why would you not acquire a power hitting RF to improve on Leury’s .711 OPS? Are you okay with a .711 OPS in RF? This is a no-brainer.
If Leury is starting in the outfield next season, the Sox failed the offseason. They need a RF and there are options available. Leury is a good bench player.
