You seem to think Eloy moving to DH would automatically ruin the team. Regardless of even signing any free agent outfielders, if a prospect like Steele Walker is legit, him playing LF and Eloy being the DH would improve the team. You do realize this, right?

Sign Marcel Ozuna for LF and sign a stopgap like Corey Dickerson for RF. And maybe Steele Walker comes up after that. Eloy can still get his 40 homers from the DH spot. And Ozuna in LF will also hit and play much better defense, improving the team overall.

Bingo, vile hoopster is dead wrong here. Eloy’s bat will be very good. His defense sucks and costs runs. He gets injured playing LF with his glove on his head. Therefore, why wouldn’t you want him to DH?

No, it isn’t. He’s awful. We need his bat in the lineup, not his glove. His glove is negative value. We don’t really have a DH as of right now so why can’t he be it?

No stat will ever convince me of that, having watched most of his games. He is awful. Misreads the ball off the bat, takes poor routes to the ball, obviously has no quickness or makeup speed to get to a ball that he has already misplayed, and has the worst outfield arm in the majors. He is a DH, period. And that’s fine, at least he won’t injure himself in the outfield again. Two times is enough for one season.

Eloy literally has a lollipop arch on his throws to the cutoff man. He needs to try lifting some weights. Good thing he has a nice swing because his upper body / arms are weak.

Eloy is the worst left fielder in history and can’t even make a throw to third base. His arm is so weak he can barely get it to the cutoff man.

I’d still do it. 3 years and still a low total of money. Even if Collins is legit, you will be able to find at bats for all three guys (Grandal, McCann, Collins) at C, DH, and 1B. Do I expect the Sox to sign him? No.
