And good for Hahn. -
Sox trade two months of Abreu to the Rays for a top 100 prospect. The Sox get back a pitcher who can potentially improve the awful rotation. Abreu gets a chance at the playoffs. Sox re-sign Abreu in the offseason. At what point in this scenario is Greg hurt by these occurrences? Because you won’t get to watch Abreu for two months in a losing season?
-
Well, if Nightengale is right and the Rays would give up a top 100 MLB pitching prospect for two months of Abreu that could potentially improve the currently awful Sox rotation in the future and you don’t want to do it, you should stop complaining about having to watch scrubs like Covey pitch for the Sox because you obviously have zero logic when it comes to improving the team.

Dick Allen’s point regarding the Sox run differential is spot on. It was always awful and that will always be a major roadblock to sustained winning and an overall winning record. It’s a pretty good predictor of whether a team will be successful or not. The Sox run differential had this team doomed regardless of what you think. -
Alec Hansen? Heh, haven’t followed him the past two seasons have you? http://m.milb.com/milb/player/641662 He’s about to fall off the Sox top 30 prospect list for a reason.

It doesn’t make any sense. And if Hahn was stupid enough not to deal Abreu for a potential rotation piece like Brent Honeywell (#75) or Shane Baz (#96) with the state of our rotation just because he is the “heart of our team” when he could just bring back Abreu in the offseason, he would deserve to be tarred and feathered by the fans.

I do like making the moves the day before deadline day. Deadline day deals reak of desperation and simply taking what you can get at the last minute. Basically, giving in to the other team’s lowball offers on your trade bait. -
How can you possibly DFA the god known as A.J. Reed?

Anyone know what the MPH was on the pitch? I doubt it was that high but that swing by Yermin makes it look like he has crazy bat speed. EDIT: Nevermind, I see 92 on the gun in LCF.

Damn, good call. Sonny Gray trade for Dustin Fowler, Jorge Mateo, and James Kaprielian. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/yankees-to-acquire-sonny-gray.html Kaprielian was the third piece in the trade and was rated the Yankees #12 prospect at the time but I’m sure the A’s wanted him. The A’s did a lot better dealing Gray to the Yankees than Hahn did dealing Robertson, Kahnle, and Frazier there. ? -

Baseball-Reference.com. Rose is ranked 40th in overall career WAR and he WOULD BE in the Hall of Fame if it was solely based on WAR. See below... https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/WAR_bat_career.shtml Also, Nellie Fox is rated 203rd in overall career WAR and there are other Hall of Famers in that same range (Ralph Kiner at #202 and Jim Rice at #212). -
Yes, cuz both Covey and Cordell were optioned and only Anderson was mentioned as coming back. I assume it will be another pitcher. Maybe Hector Santiago but they would need to add him to the 40 man roster first. But god knows there is more than enough junk on the 40 man to release and free up a spot for Santiago.

I’d rather have Dylan Carlson than Bader.

Making the argument that the Sox could have made the playoffs in 1990 and 2006 if the Wild Card existed back then is convoluted and ridiculous. You can’t win something that doesn’t exist. The rules were that they had to win the division back then. Second place is second place. I’m surprised you didn’t also try to argue that the Sox would have won the World Series in the 1994 season had it not been for the strike. -

What do you think will happen to the price of pitching and RF with more competition for those guys this upcoming offseason? They won’t reach the prices of Harper and Machado but guy like Cole, Bumgarner, Ozuna, and Strasburg (if he opts out) will get expensive. -

Easy, Heisenberg. -
Nova isn’t worth much but give me a young A ball pitching prospect flier over a 26 year old catcher who can’t hit.

Vargas is an ancient starting pitcher and the return is a AAAA fodder catcher. I doubt that trade has anything to do with pursuit of Colome.
