  1. You act like people can’t be excited about the young talent but be frustrated that the front office will blow it when it comes time to spend money to assist the youth. And discussing past failures? Last offseason was a pretty recent event. And after all the big talk the Sox front office was quick to dish out to the fans as Balta stated, they failed miserably and made themselves look stupid. So this upcoming offseason, why should fans expect a different outcome? They will likely whiff on the top targets, like Cole and Ozuna, as usual and we will wind up with some second tier guys.
  2. You can’t group the two?!? So because they were “trying to win” yet failed miserably, you can’t hold that against them? It isn’t like they were signing top free agents to compete either. The free agent strategy has not changed. This is where the doubt is in my opinion. If the next offseason is more of the same, people will be even more pissed after missing out on Machado last offseason. Fans have every right to doubt management. The Sox last playoff appearance was 2008 and they have had two winning seasons since then. That is pathetic. And management hasn’t really changed either so it’s the same regime — Kenny and Hahn.
  3. Sure sounds like it. I already noted Stone’s comments earlier this week during a game on giving a big long term deal to a top free agent starting pitcher. It was like he was preaching Reinsdorf’s vision to Sox fans and preparing them to be disappointed next offseason.
  4. Exactly. I was going to bring up WAR but I’m glad you did. 15 games just isn’t enough for one player on a team to make a big impact.
  5. Yep, any interest in Rendon ended when the Sox whiffed on Machado and moved Moncada to 3B with Madrigal waiting in the wings for 2B. Rendon is not going to happen, so why talk about it? Let’s focus on Cole which likely won’t happen either. ? But at least he makes sense to sign.
  6. The fact that the Cubs did it with Bryant and the Sox will do it with both Robert and Madrigal means it’s likely the smart and logical play, regardless of the strange opinions posted here. And before anyone argues that it pissed off Bryant and led to him refusing contract extensions, I call BS on that. He hired Boras for a reason — to get him the biggest contract once he hits free agency.
  7. 15 games is a lot as far as a tight division race goes but how much impact does one player have in only 15 games? That is how you have to look at it.
  8. I don’t get it either. This is easy to comprehend. 15 games is only 9% of a season. I’d rather not have Robert play for the first 15 games of next season and have him for an additional 162 game season later in his career.
  9. With Moncada looking great at 3B, if Madrigal pans out at 2B, and if the Sox throw the money they didn’t spend on Machado at an ace like Cole, they can definitely make the non-signing of Machado look like a great move. But does anyone really think they will spend the money on Cole?
  10. Bruuuccceee on The Score thinks the Sox move Colome for pitching if the price is right but also thinks the Sox will keep Bummer as their closer.
  11. I would pass on Bumgarner. I watched him pitch against the Cubs last night. His stuff is nothing special these days.
  12. Wait a second, what happened to Cole and Ozuna? Your free agent expectations are already dropping? Also, when I mentioned Puig as more the Sox style due to their past interest, I got jumped on.
  13. Are you trying to say you could’ve acquired better starting pitchers over the years than Hahn’s collection of studs? Ivan Nova Ervin Santana Manny Banuelos Dylan Covey Hector Santiago Miguel Gonzalez Derek Holland James “Big Game” Shields Mat Latos Jeff Samardzija Hector Noesi Felipe Paulino
  14. 7.27 ERA and a 2.10 WHIP in AAA. Wow.
  15. Jimmy Walker from Good Times is still alive? “Dy-no-mite!!!”
  16. Not pointless. We are back in the race! http://www.tankathon.com/mlb
  17. Mendick can lift a jug of Gatorade for $5 million less.
  18. Haha. It’s a calculated risk that is worth taking for the extra year.
  19. Yes. Why waste an entire year of control over Robert in a non-competitive season?
  20. Covey, still bad. He’s a 3 inning longman at best.
  21. The Sox don’t guarantee sexual favors. Those are only based on plate appearances reached in the 8th and 9th years of a contract.
  22. Yeah, where have we seen a front office play a ridiculous game of cat and mouse waiting game with a top free agent, only to watch him finally get the offer he was waiting for the entire time and that was made known to the public with another team, leaving the Sox front office looking like clowns? Oh yeah, just last offseason...
  23. I expect the Sox not to move Abreu so I won’t be disappointed. If I was the GM, I would move him. You can always resign him in the offseason.
  24. I don’t think the Cubs have enough good prospects that the Sox would have targeted for them to eat Chatwood’s $13 million for next year. Nico Hoerner is their best one and we already have Anderson and Madrigal.
