  1. This is exactly why some of us wanted him to DH. Losing his defense from LF means nothing. Losing his bat from the lineup is huge.
  2. He will be too busy laughing at Hahn’s incentive-based contract offer as he accepts a much larger guaranteed contract from another team.
  3. I need to find my post where I said I wanted him to DH to protect him from injury.
  4. I doubt the Sox thought Omar would OPS .840 and improve his defense when they traded him away. Caratini is two years younger than Narvaez And is also a good hitter. Plus, the Sox plan for Collins will apparently be cycling between DH, 1B, and C instead of being a full-time catcher. We also get a solid young lefty relief prospect. This is only assuming McCann is a one year wonder of course, but we don’t know that yet and likely won’t know until next year. You guys sure seem to think one year of Colome is worth a ton.
  5. White Sox trade: CL Alex Colome, LRP Josh Osich, OF Jon Jay, and cash for Cubs trade: C Victor Caratini and LRP Brendon Little Probably too light on the Sox end.
  6. I don’t recall this? Can you expand on this? Thanks.
  7. He was the opposite of the norm of an ace. Didn’t have a good fastball but had really good breaking stuff and ridiculous control. But how many Maddux-like starters are out there? They are more of the exception, not the norm.
  8. I think Cease has a better chance of being an ace than Gio because he has better raw stuff than Gio. Cease has an out pitch that he can control in his curveball but he will need to be able to get his fastball and other offerings over the plate as well. But Gio can be a very good #2.
  9. Per Scott Merkin on The Score this morning, Dodgers And Braves scouts were at the game last night.
  10. I actually liked season 1, was bored by season 2, but thought season s was really good.
  11. I don’t like this experimental rule. It’s 3 strikes and you’re out and you can only run to 1B on a dropped third strike. Here’s a follow up question. Is play considered dead during a mound visit or can baserunners steal bases during them?
  12. Indeed. Yolmer’s best season with the bat was 2017 with a line of .267 / .319 / .413 / .732. His career line is .243 / .296 / .360 / .656. He has never been a good hitter. Just because Benetti interviews him a lot and talks him up does not make him a good player. We only know about him because he has received far too many plate appearances over the years because the Sox have had such awful rosters, with bench players being used in starting roles.
  13. In 2016, Aroldis Chapman was a 3 month rental and the Cubs knew it. He also had served a 30 game domestic abuse suspension earlier in the 2016 season which should have lowered his trade value. Yet the Cubs gave up current Allstar SS/2B Gleybor Torres to the Yankees for 3 months of Chapman. Chapman then re-signed back with the Yankees in the offseason. In a trade deadline where a load of pitching is available but not many good bats, who knows what the return could be for Abreu? But your reasoning and assumption is quite easily proven wrong by this fairly recent trade.
  14. Guys I would definitely trade if the offers are reasonable: Abreu Colome Leury Guys I would accept a bucket of balls and some minor salary relief for: Castillo Jay Yolmer I would keep McCann for next year. Maybe Castillo could net something if Maldonado returned Montgomery but we would likely have to eat some of Castillo’s remaining salary.
  15. I don’t think this is true. He is an expiring contract so there were talks about trading him at the deadline even before the season started, assuming the Sox weren’t in contention by the deadline. And why would the team trading for Abreu and his expiring contract either know or care that he may resign with the Sox after the season is over? Any team acquiring Abreu and his expiring contract would just want him for their playoff run. If they want Abreu longer term than that, the they could attempt to sign him in the offseason like all other teams.
