  1. He did seem like he practiced a lot but nothing he said seemed very spontaneous. I think he can improve but he would probably bolt for a manager job. But can the most hated player in baseball get a manager job?
  2. His near 6 ERA says that isn’t likely to repeat itself.
  3. Steve Stone said that Abreu is going to have an all-world year after this second half, his best ever. Stone only cares about HRs and RBIs like Greg. ?
  4. Francisco Cervelli will no longer catch. https://www.dkpittsburghsports.com/2019/07/07/francisco-cervelli-pirates-done-catching-dk/
  5. We need a RF, not a LF/DH. I’d rather extend Abreu and get a stop-gap at DH until Vaughn is ready. Then Abreu can move to DH with Vaughn at 1B.
  6. Ex-Giants QB and Eli Manning backup Jared Lorenzen died on July 3rd at 38 years old. He always struggled with his weight but was recently over 500 pounds. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/07/04/jared-lorenzen-former-kentucky-quarterback-who-played-nfl-dies/
  7. Roid-rage. He’s probably more upset about the bone spur in his right elbow and his ERA nearing 5.
  8. Well, midgets prefer to be called “little people” so I’m sure Madrigal will absolutely love this nickname. I can’t wait until Ron asks him for his opinion in person. Maybe Ron can also get feedback from Abreu on his nickname for him, “worthless bum.” I will be waiting with bated breath.
  9. I gave you a very valid counterpoint to your argument that you weren’t even aware of on Cruz’s record and you simply dismissed it. There is no debating with you or getting through to you. Once your mind is made up, that is it. You don’t think there is any likelihood that Cruz, who has cheated in the past is still doing the same to improve his performance in his old age? Yes, hitters can be productive in their old age but Cruz at 39 is the massive outlier, not the norm. So why would a young team want to go against the law of averages and sign a bunch of older guys? It isn’t being “anti-age.” It’s using common sense and realizing that the career peak for most clean players is in their late 20’s to early 30’s, not their mid to late 30’s.
  10. Every time new testing is used to find the cheaters, the cheaters find new and better PEDs or masking agents. Also, it’s not like all the muscle he built up from prior years of PED use just disappears.
  11. For the same reason McGwire and Sosa we’re hitting homers into their mid and late 30’s. In 2013, Nelson Cruz was linked to the Biogenesis scandal and was suspended 50 games for PED usage. I’m guessing his drug usage just got smarter over the years. The PED users are always one step ahead.
  12. It shows that they haven’t had that much minor league experience. Robert missed a lot with injuries. All players are different and need different seasoning but Tim Anderson had 1372 minor league at bats and some people think he was rushed. And why does not hitting homers matter? With the juiced ball, I expect most guys in a lineup to be able to hit a few these days. Little guys can hit homers too (see Altuve).
  13. I think this is a bit of an overreaction when it comes to Robert and Madrigal. Robert only has 571 minor league at bats due to injuries. Madrigal only has 443.
  14. I think it’s normal for Abreu to think he has to hit a homer in that situation considering there were two outs already. If there was only one out or no outs, I agree with you since McCann and Eloy were behind him.
  15. Yep, this doesn’t do it for me.
  16. I’d pass on dealing with the Brewers again. Cordell and Medeiros? Blah. They definitely know which overrated prospects to dump on Hahn.
  17. I think the Sox will have a chance at signing the lower tier guys like Puig, Wheeler, and Wood. I don’t see the Sox signing Ozuna, Cole, or Bumgarner.
  18. I think Madrigal is on the Robert plan. I don’t think it will be months. I think it will only be a few weeks into the season that both get called up.
  19. I just think Schoop is going to get more than one year and will likely be overpaid this time around. He’s only 27 and some team will bite on him for more than one year. He definitely won’t be a value signing this time around. Mendick will replace Yolmer as the utility middle infielder and save the Sox $6 million to spend elsewhere (RP).
  20. Sign 1 of those 3 outfielders. Sign 2 of those 6 starting pitchers. Sign some RP. Pass on 2B. Leury or Mendick can fill in at 2B until they call up Madrigal once the deadline is up after the first few weeks of the season. I am assuming they trade or non-tender Yolmer.
  21. Yes, it will be your fault if Abreu doesn’t homer here. ?
