  1. I think Gio would be receptive to an extension, considering his early struggles. A Gio extension is definitely more realistic than signing Cole on the free agent market, which is where I think your Reinsdorf comment would apply more.
  2. I wanted the Sox to move him to DH moreso so he doesn’t get hurt and we lose his bat in the lineup but he truly has improved already as people said he would.
  3. I’d rather spend $6 million on a reliever than Yolmer.
  4. Leury has been great and definitely has some value. I wouldn’t be upset if he was traded if the return is good but I also wouldn’t mind seeing him stay. I would treat him just like Colome — if you get an offer that you like, for some highly rated near MLB ready talent, by all means move them. If you don’t get any offers other than low A ball guys with some potential, keep them both.
  5. Machado has a higher OPS, can play SS and 3B, and is 6 years younger. Abreu has negative defensive value at 1B. It’s quite obvious who is worth $30 million and who isn’t. Do you not realize that playing a key defensive position like 3B or SS as opposed to being a turnstile at 1B has a lot of value? I was just listing my projected lineup for the near future but I do think both Madrigal and Robert should be starting next year once the Kris Bryant deadline is over a few weeks into the season. Vaughn will take longer and will likely not see the 2020 team. But a one year DH should be easy to fill until Vaughn is ready to take over 1B and move Abreu to full-time DH.
  6. What people were willing to pay Machado has nothing to do with Abreu. Machado is worth a hell of a lot more than Abreu. Terrible logic. I actually would like to see the Sox bring him back but probably for no more than two years. How exciting would it be going into the offseason and only needing to fill one position (RF) in the lineup? 2B Madrigal CF Robert 3B Moncada DH Abreu LF Eloy 1B Vaughn SS Anderson C McCann RF ???
  7. His offense will pick up to what? He’s just not a good hitter (.659 career OPS) and not worth what he will get via salary arbitration ($6M?) next offseason.
  8. It’s hard to move on. If Tatis Jr. was simply a good player like a Semien, no one would have a big problem with it. But Hahn traded a star, who is tearing up the league at 20 years old, for junk. He is OPS’ing over 1.000. He can hit for average, hit for power, steal bases, and play shortstop. Last offseason, Hahn was trying to pay big bucks for the very type of player that he foolishly traded away. To lose that type of franchise talent going forward for essentially nothing is a huge blow to this team.
  9. It still makes no sense to extend him now with the extra year of control. He is at his peak value right now. Do you think he is going to play any better than this next year? He could still be good but I doubt he is putting up a .900+ OPS next year at this time. Wait it out and see how he does next year. Then decide to extend.
  10. I think trading Abreu and resigning him in the offseason would be a wise move but I don’t see Hahn doing it.
  11. Man, Eloy has a noodle arm. Fulmer has had about enough chances.
  12. Steve Stone thinks Bummer will be a closer. Okay, trade Colome!
  13. That first inning was. He settled down nicely. Still crazy that he has more control of his curve than his fastball. Usually it’s the opposite.
  14. [Ron] He only hits when it doesn’t count! [/Ron]
