You haven’t been paying attention then. The guy has raised his OPS by 100 points in a matter of weeks. He could easily be back up to .900+ OPS on a few more weeks. And the Sox aren’t signing Cole so keep dreaming. Who was the last pitcher the Sox signed for 6+ years and $140+ million?
-
I think you are shooting the window of contention too far into the future. The Sox could compete as soon as next season with a few free agent signings (2 SP, RF, and relief) and Machado will still be in his prime at 27. You and a few other posters ridiculously jumped the gun and talked a lot of smack when Machado was struggling early in the season but he’s a premier talent and it should have been obvious to everyone that he would turn it around sooner or later. Now you change the narrative to: he won’t be good within the Sox contention window. Absolutely ridiculous. Nice to see BackDoorBreach and SonofaRoache call you out on your ludicrous post as well. Please don’t forget that Hahn pretty much wasted $40+ million this past offseason. God forbid we might have had this amazing Yankees-esque future lineup: RF Robert 2B Moncada 3B Machado LF Eloy 1B Vaughn DH Abreu SS Anderson C McCann CF Madrigal
-
This sounds like the Schwarber plan before they moved him to LF full time.
-
Exactly. And the White Sox narrative is to not spend big cash on top free agent talent so get back to me when it actually happens. Ownership being flush with money to spend does not equal money spent.
-
Yeah, dodged a bullet.
-
No more excuses. Yes, Hahn has made good trades but that has nothing to do with how awful of an acquisition Alonso was. Trading a prospect and helping a division opponent free up $9 million in a failed attempt at signing his brother-in-law who you wouldn’t show the money to is a massive whiff. Alonso isn’t even a good power bat over his career. Hahn blew it.

Ruthless and I still love it. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/charities/support/basebowl-tournament

Yep, and the only thing saving the Dark Nova is that our rotation is in shambles. Another waste of $9 million.
-
Biggest waste of $9 million ever? First, he failed at recruiting. Next, he failed at hitting better than Brian Anderson. What an absolute pile of suck. Good riddance.
-
I disagree. It just makes me think what better players he could have spent the $40+ million on that he wasted.

Don’t be surprised if Ryan Goins is called up
Moan4Yoan replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Who cares? He’s 31. He’s an AAAA player and has zero place on this team. Stay in the minors please. I don’t even care much about Mendick but he should obviously be called up before Goings. -
Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him

Dellin Betances. -
Palka has earned the callup and Alonso has earned he DFA at this point. The only thing preventing this no brainer move from happening is Rick Hahn’s pride.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Moan4Yoan replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here’s my viewpoint and I think a lot of people would agree. Yes, Colome is a very nice closer but he is only under control for one more season at around $9 million. Even if he is traded, the Sox could potentially acquire another closer in the offseason with that $9 million or an in-house option could succeed in the closer role and the Sox could spend that $9 million elsewhere. To me, the potential to use Colome to acquire a young prospect with years of control outweighs the risks of not having Colome for one more year over another outside or in-house alternative at closer. -
Trade both and re-sign Abreu and acquire another closer in the offseason.

High ankle sprain. Leury is moving to SS. Should be exciting.

He’s back and on fire. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run home run and scored two runs in a win over the Orioles on Tuesday. Orioles starter Jimmy Yacabonis hung a breaking ball in the second inning that Tatis skied to center field, just eluding the outstretched glove of center fielder Keon Broxton for a two-run blast. The homer was his ninth of the season, giving him 25 RBI and 34 runs scored to go with nine steals. The 20-year-old has been as advertised through the season's first half, batting a robust .323/.392/.585 in 44 games played.

I don’t know but I love it.

Moan4Yoan replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is a reason to keep Colome because he is under control next year. There really is no argument for keeping Abreu. If you can get anything of value for him, move him and re-sign him in the offseason if you want to. -
Let him stick to reading cue cards.

Adam Eaton doing his best not to make union rep
Moan4Yoan replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
It’s a good thing Eaton can play at the major league level because he has rocks in his head just like Swisher. They would both be mopping bathrooms without their baseball talent. -
Maybe he wants to spread his love and affliction, I mean affection.
-
Haha, didn’t notice that. Even worse.

The Sox are 4 games under .500 and have been hovering in place for weeks. What are you expecting from them? You are making your own blood boil if you are expecting anything else. Do you need the Dennis Green treatment?
-
His developing offensive talents are definitely outweighing everything else in his game but he isn’t the best on defense or baseball smarts. Not the worst case scenario but let’s be honest. I’ll take the good offense and weak baseball IQ over the opposite scenario.
