  1. Yep, this is true. He is turning 29 soon but the next best free agent option is turning 31 soon in Grandal. I still don’t think McCann’s bat will keep up by the end of the season.
  2. Uhhh, nope. Remember when everyone was excited about Palka hitting almost 30 bombs? Where is he now?
  3. We need to see what happens with both McCann and Narvaez.
  4. Or a spontaneous meaningless reaction to a tough loss.
  5. Nova is a free agent after this season. Unless you think the Sox have a legitimate shot at the playoffs this year, it doesn't really matter.
  6. Because I am a realist. Engel and Tilson are AAAA players. Go read the game thread and see how positive I was about Giolito start tonight. Also, don't worry so much about what other posters think. I don't tell you that you are being too positive, do I?
  7. Did he fix Abreu too? He is now hitting .279 with a .878 OPS.
  8. I'm fine with this. I'd rather have Stone and AJP but you wouldn't have a lackey to call the game.
  9. Yeah, that must be the bigger issue. Definitely not the years of bad ownership, management, and losing. No playoff appearances since 2008 is a much more minor issue. It's the forum's fault.
  10. I disagree with this. Zavala is doing nothing at AAA and is nearing 26. Collins is hitting well but may not have the defensive skills to stick at catcher full-time and the Sox will need both a C and DH after this season, as well as a 1B if they let Abreu walk. McCann will be retained if he keeps it up because of the extra year of control they have on him and if they decide to extend him.
  11. Well, you wouldn't have Colome but undoing that trade and having both Narvaez and McCann as your backstops and DFA'ing Castillo wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world either. And Narvaez isn't a free agent until after the 2022 season. I guess a lot depends on if McCann keeps it up and seeing what Hahn gets in a trade for Colome.
  12. 6+ years of losing records will do that to a fan. It's not the nature of the Internet.
  13. Where did anyone say that a guy on a 1-year deal for $2.5 million is the worst free agent signing in franchise history?
  14. If he keeps it going, not even at his current pace, through the rest of the season he may be worth looking into keeping long-term. The next best option is Grandal who is two years older and will be a lot more expensive. But show me 150 more ABs first.

  16. I wouldn't throw money at McCann yet just cuz he had one decent year out of four with a .733 OPS. The Sox have arbitration control over him for next season. See how he finishes the season and then worry about keeping him longer than 2020.
  17. Where were those 100 good at bats other than with the Sox this year?
  18. Dude, take it down a notch. It's not even 100 at bats yet.
  19. Haha, that was good. And I agree. He let Gio get one more out in the inning and he was at 105 pitches. Gio's success tonight and his arm are worth more to the Sox than this win. At some point, the bullpen has to be used. Ricky sucks for a lot of reasons but tonight wasn't one of them.
  20. Yep, for 2020. He's a free agent after next season. So the Sox have every reason to see how he does this entire season and then decide what to do with him.
  21. I give Hahn and Cooper more credit for a no name pickup like Jose Quintana than Gio. Gio was a first round pick and was 21 when the Sox acquired him.
  22. I don't think Renteria handled that poorly. He let him get one out in the inning and Gio was at 105 pitches. Does a Sox win even matter anyways? LOL. I care more that Gio was great. A loss helped the draft pick.
  23. Eh, not so much. He always had the pedigree.
