  1. Adam Engel wants to stay above the Mendoza Line apparently.
  2. Yep, I'm on board. But Alonso was pretty much a waste of $9 million and at bats the second Machado signed with the Padres.
  3. No one spends $9 million on a pitcher they don't think will be average at the least. It was $9 million wasted. Just like the $4 million for Jon Jay.
  4. Ron should be hired as Abreu’s personal motivational coach.
  5. Agreed. Rutherford isn’t a headliner in any trade offer. Being a first round pick is pretty much all he has going for him.
  6. What does Nova do for the 2019 Sox season that any other cheaper signing or random starter from the minors like Covey couldn’t do? Be bad and eat innings in a non-competitive season? What’s the difference? Oh, about $8 million dollars.
  7. Eh, no one else signed Shields either. He isn’t really needed on this team either. What Hahn did right was find a youngish cheap guy like Banuelos. He should have just tried to find undervalued guys like him on the cheap. Remember, it worked great with Quintana years ago. And Giolito, Lopez, Rodon, and eventually Cease will all need rotation spots. Potentially adding a couple decent 4/5 starters with years of cheap control to the young group of starters (and Kopech next year) is more important than acquiring mediocre vets like Nova and Santana on one year deals in an expected losing season. Their potential value in trades isn’t worth the innings you are wasting on them.
  8. Jay was a waste of $4 million when the Sox already had 2-3 guys that could fill the role of mediocre fourth outfielder.
  9. He’s worth even less if he never plays due to injury. DH him.
  10. Do you want Alonso on the team next year at $9 million?
  11. Does it matter? He’s 32 year old DH with a career OPS of .744 earning $9 million. We should all just hope he gets hot as hell and Hahn is able to dump him before his option vests.
  12. Agree on the second part but let Robert develop more. If anything, just let Tilson replace Engel.
  13. Alonso has been fine? He’s hitting .190 with a .718 OPS as a DH.
  14. You can just look at his career numbers to know he isn’t keeping this up. His best season was a .733 OPS.
  15. Herrera, Colome, and McCann all look good — $19 million well spent so far. But the $22+ million he spent on the guys below? Not so much. I guess we will have to circle back to all of their numbers at the end of the year. Nova Alonso Jay Santana
  16. Banuelos needs to work on the walks. He won’t be in the rotation for long with a WHIP hovering around 1.40 to 1.50.
  17. Or maybe not. He seems to be around 90-93. Santana wishes he could touch that, heh.
  18. Fastball is down a few ticks. Probably not stretched out enough to go 6-7 innings yet.
  19. Of course he does. Santana already said goodbye and I don’t think Covey has much say in the matter. No one is close to Banuelos right now.
  20. Yep, and he was barely in the movie other than his initial appearance.
  21. Not that it’s any surprise but Bruce Levine refuted this story on The Score this morning.
  22. Who are you kidding? Hahn had a pathetic offseason, regardless of saving a few bucks on his awful signing of 36 year old Ervin Santana, whom every other team knew was done. Try to tell me how good Hahn has been with his free agent signings, especially this past offseason please. It’s not trolling when it’s true. The Sox would be on the hook for $4.3 million if Santana wasn’t a moron. I’m waiting...
  23. Yes, I would love to know more. The only rumor I’ve heard is how Harry was having an affair with the owner of the Cardinals (Busch) daughter-in-law.
  24. Watching the battle through the eyes of some crows for no apparent reason.
