  1. You have already placed the goal posts within a 6 year period of time, while portraying it as a 10 year period. Got it? And why can’t one go back further? Kenny is still around afterall. If the sample selection of years is too short, you go back further in time. You are quite possibly the only Sox fan in existence who could say with a straight face that the Sox have drafted well over the years.
  2. Exactly my point. And how much credit should the Sox get for failing to recognize this talent?
  3. Easy question, easy answer. The Sox signing Castellanos for 3/$54 is a lot more likely than signing Betts or even Springer.
  4. They could easily dump Adam Duvall, leaving them with Ozuna, Inciarte, Acuna, and Markakis. https://www.mlb.com/braves/news/marcell-ozuna-deal-with-braves “Ozuna will serve as the Braves’ everyday left fielder. So the team will now decide how to best utilize Nick Markakis and Adam Duvall, who had been projected to platoon at the position. Duvall will come to camp on a non-guaranteed contract. But with the new rule of a 26-man roster, there still could be room for these outfielders. Markakis could occasionally spell Ozuna in left field or Ronald Acuña Jr. in right field. And when facing some left-handed starters, it may make more sense to use Duvall in right field and have Acuña play center field in place of the lefty-hitting Ender Inciarte.”
  5. Castellanos at the same AAV as Ozuna for a 3 year deal. 3 / $54 million Do you sign him?
  6. 2010 is the first year reviewed which includes Sale. Don’t go back before that cuz it gets ugly.
  7. A good follow up question would’ve been if he is going to be at SoxFest! ?
  8. Indeed. Surprised the Braves would be the team willing to lose a pick for one year of Ozuna’s services.
  9. Older, draft pick attached, and Castellanos’ hot streak with the Cubs in the second half could sway some teams thoughts. If Castellanos gets only 2/$40, I I’ll definitely be upset the Sox didn’t sign him. No long term risk on that type of contract.
  10. Ozuna had a 2nd round compensatory pick attached to him. Castellanos doesn’t. So Castellanos will likely get more years, but his price definitely appears like it will be far less than what was originally thought going into the offseason. Puig will be lucky to get more money from an MLB team than he could get playing in Japan.
  11. I would go hard at Castellanos now. His price has definitely dropped. Not as low as Ozuna’s but if the Sox can improve on Mazara in RF, Nomar can take a back seat. Puig isn’t getting anything now.
  12. Damn, the prices have dropped. Go after Castellanos for the hell of it.
  13. If the Sox could acquire Arenado for Madrigal, and some pitching like Dunning/Stiever, I think you would be crazy not to consider it.
  14. Does the cumulative WAR still count for the Sox if they traded the player away? For example, the Sox shouldn’t get much credit for failing to recognize that guys like Semien and Tatis Jr. were keepers. For the Sox to get credit for their future WAR after they had already left the Sox is a bit disingenuous.
  15. I’m sure there’s an equivalent NBA stat to WAR that GarPax could add up over the years to prove that they have had good drafts, like this bogus cumulative WAR ranking. Meanwhile, the Bulls don’t have enough stars to ever win anything.
  16. It was just an example of how those numbers are skewed. Make it 3 to 4 WAR a year then. The point still remains. Can you think of any Sox position player draft pick who has been worth a damn outside of Semien and Tatis Jr. in the several years before this most recent rebuild? The pre-rebuild Kenny and Hahn era? And neither guy plays for the Sox. There is no way this can be portrayed as successful.
  17. Impact players are where it’s at... not some ridiculous accumulation of a bunch of players’ WAR values. Those numbers are skewed. For example, 5 to 6 WAR from one star player each year is way more efficient and impressive than 5 to 6 WAR from two of three players added together.
  18. If you didn’t care about money at all, of course you trade Madrigal and move Moncada to 2B. No brainer move if we were the Yankees or Dodgers.
  19. I want to get a game-used, barely contacted Yolmer Sanchez bat signed by him after he’s the surprise announcement of SoxFest.
  20. Don’t make a movie that an entire sex and/or age group doesn’t want to see. You don’t see chewing gum companies manufacturing dog shit-flavored gum, do you? Cuz they know it won’t sell. Just like how the production company should’ve known that the majority of men weren’t going to see a movie called “Little Women.” ?
  21. Exactly. A GM should be able to draft a TE like Ebron all day long. If no one has faith in Pace finding a TE in the draft as good as Ebron, step one should be getting rid of Pace.
  22. Let’s be honest, the Sox really only traded away two prospects worth a damn — Semien and Tatis Jr. The far bigger problem over the years was the Sox failing to draft and develop enough talent in general.
  23. He’s also owed $234 million over 7 years, which honestly doesn’t look that bad after the Machado and Harper deals but I don’t see how the Sox can take on that kind of money and hope to lock up Moncada, Giolito, etc. Arenado, the Rockies franchise player, just signed a lifetime contract with his original team last offseason and this offseason his GM goes to the public and openly talks about trading him. I don’t really think Arenado is being a crybaby here. He’s the best player on his team by far and the GM is openly discussing trading him away. He should want to go to a team that realizes his value and wants to win. Apparently, the Rockies have decided to change course with their franchise player just one year after extending him and it doesn’t look like they are trying to win anytime soon if they want to trade away Arenado.

  25. Don’t be upset or offended. It’s more of the universally negative view of Bowden and any of his opinions. He is quite simply not a well respected baseball analyst. Vaughn can be really good but I won’t simply believe it because Bowden says so.
