  1. I think the Sox are playing Yolmer and hoping he hits so they can trade him. He won’t be manning 2B for long with Madrigal around and he is getting too expensive for a bench player who can’t hit. However, I do agree and would like to see what Rondon can do.
  2. Outfield defense hilarity will ensue today.
  3. Palka has a hard enough time proving his offensive value at DH unless he can OPS over .800. Palka playing the outfield will make him a negative value player yet again.
  4. The Sox obviously make decisions on the fly based on who they have available to fill a role. The minute they whiffed on Machado, Moncada became the 3B. If Machado was signed, Moncada would still be at 2B.
  5. Not likely. They are bad. Alonso and Jay both became dead weights the second Machado signed with the Padres. Palka is a DH but can’t fill the role because of Hahn’s stupid addition of Alonso. Yes, Eloy will prove his worth. However, Hahn likely won’t.
  6. Not seeing our good young prospects shouldn’t make you long for a terrible 27 year old fourth outfielder. Also, Palka should be our DH. The problem is that Hahn stuck himself with two rejects in his failed quest for Machado that the Sox are forced to play until the trade deadline.
  7. Shouldn’t the outrage be on this story and the ridiculousness of all charges against Smollett being dropped? This guy staged a hate crime so he could: 1. Further his career and make money off of it. 2. Make Trump and MAGA supporters look like racist individuals to push his agenda. How did this case get dropped when there is overwhelming evidence against him? It makes you wonder who truly is pulling the strings on this story.
  8. Ummm, okay... you said he should be “spelling starters”. That screams backup. Sure, Yolmer would have a spot on most teams but he wouldn’t be starting at 2B for most of those teams like he is with the Sox. And I don’t get your earlier argument, neither Yolmer nor Palka are legitimate MLB starters. We have more holes than just Yolmer.
  9. Don’t enter the thread then. It seems like you just don’t want to be reminded of an awful trade by Hahn. It’s okay to accept it and call it what it is.
  10. So you admit Yolmer is a bench player, yet he is the Sox starting second baseman, but also wonder why Sox fans would be negative about him being in the lineup? What did Hahn get for his $45 million this offseason? Obviously not a starting second baseman. That was far more toxic.
  11. They moved Moncada to 3B after whiffing on Machado. It was done to accommodate Madrigal for next year. No team is moving players around for Yolmer, not even our horribly mismanaged one.
  12. I can just hear Hahn right now. ”The money will be spent... on a bunch of scrub players that Kenny and I dumpster dive for! Deal with it, Sox fans! Hahahahahaaa!” I agree with Balta. The money all adds up. $2.5 million for McCann, $4 million for Jay, $9 million for Alonso. And what are these guys doing for you? Does anyone expect them to have good seasons? They are roster fillers who aren’t worth the money Hahn is paying them. I’d rather have Kevan Smith as our backup catcher, Palka at DH, Engel as a backup CFer, and one better player for around $14 million than a trio of suck. Hahn and Kenny think more is better. They always pick quantity over quality cuz it worked one time for the Sox in 2005.
  13. Jay and Alonso only made sense if it helped the Sox sign Machado. Obviously it didn’t so they don’t make sense here either.
  14. An expensive 30 year old utility guy? He could’ve hit 4 homers today and he still would have made zero sense for the Sox to sign.
  15. Agreed, he’s a nice backup. People should blame Hahn, not Yolmer. Hahn royally messed up one trade and one signing that would have kept Yolmer on the bench.
  16. He’s not a starter but the Sox made him one when Hahn whiffed on his two Padres. So now we get to watch the clown routine for one more season at 2B until Madrigal is ready.
  17. Also, if we should be happy that the Sox can hit in the international market with a guy like Tatis Jr., shouldn’t we be equally upset with the Sox talent evaluators that had no problem trading him away for a broken-down starting pitcher? Obviously they didn’t recognize Tatis Jr.’s true talent and thought a washed-up Shields was worth acquiring for him. That’s two awful evaluations in one trade.
  18. Agreed. I believe Shields’ peripherals including fastball speed were already in decline that year. Kenny and Hahn just thought they could acquire a former ace on the cheap and hoped his age and decline wouldn’t appear quite as fast as it did.
  19. You must pass their physicals to get paid and you can’t have so much as a hangnail. The Orioles are an interesting organization. They are terrible enough that no one wants to play there but has such high expectations for giving money to players.
  20. Eloy in LF, obviously not known for his defensive ability. Leury, an infielder playing CF. Palka, a DH playing RF. That’s pretty bad.
  21. Keep hoping to ease the pain. Shields still wasn’t worth the chance that Tatis becomes a star. And it definitely wasn’t worth the ridiculous notion that Kenny and Hahn thought they had a shot at making the playoffs that year.
  22. What?!? Even with Eloy, we probably have one of the worst outfields in baseball other than the Giants.
  23. This is correct. I also seem to remember Shields was also having a good season, albeit with weak peripherals, but didn’t he get absolutely bombed in his two starts prior to the trade leading to the owner bashing Shields’ effort?
