  1. Agreed, but he’s going to mainly be playing RF with Abreu and Alonso around for 1B/DH and Eloy in LF.
  2. I only like it now that it makes some sense after missing out on Machado and having Madrigal in the minors. I’d still rather have Moncada at 2B, Machado at 3B, and figure out what to do with Madrigal when the time comes.
  3. This guy will never be a third baseman. He looks too out of shape to even play first base. Hopefully he rakes in the minors and become a quality DH. Was Burger in much better shape when the Sox drafted him? I’m surprised anyone would draft him that high as a 3B based on body shape alone. Is it any surprise that this guy tore his Achilles twice? He has a massive body/torso being supported by the calves/legs of a skinny woman.
  4. Problem is his lack of walks and awful defense drag him down to a below average player, especially in RF.
  5. Yolmer is no MLB regular. Neither is Palka. I basically said Palka’s defense is trash but he hits the occasional bomb. We need a 2B and a RFer. Hopefully we have a 2B in Madrigal but I don’t have much faith in Rutherford or Adolfo being our next RFer.
  6. I like this lineup the most. But man, Sanchez as a starter really ruins the look of that lineup. Hopefully, Madrigal is legit. Palka in RF will be an adventure but at least we get to see more Palka bombs.
  7. Not exactly tough competition but let’s let the 25 year old Mendick try to figure out AAA pitching well enough to hit over .255 there.
  8. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/chicago-white-sox/scouting-reports-knock-his-defense-zack-collins-working-hard-become-white-sox “Scouts are high on Collins' offense. The word when he was drafted with the 10th overall pick out of the University of Miami last June is that Collins possesses a bat and plate approach that was almost major league ready. The same group isn't as certain about Collins' catching prowess. Some believe the 2016 Johnny Bench Award winner (awarded to the nation's top collegiate catcher) would eventually wind up as a first baseman. MLBPipeline.com's scouting report on Collins points out his lack of fluidity behind the plate and "spotty" receiving and blocking skills.”
  9. Probably the same source that said Kyle Schwarber would stick at catcher.
  10. I guess we all may as well be Marlins fans.
  11. Everything has an opportunity cost. Don’t they teach basic economics in high school anymore? Just like no one thought a broken down James Shields would ever return a top prospect, he did. If the Sox didn’t use Semien in the bust of a trade for The Shark, maybe Semien excels with the Sox and they eventually trade him for a guy who turns into a legit prospect.
  12. Does it really matter? He is now one of the top prospects in baseball. Obviously Hahn grossly misjudged his talent level. He even joked about it at SoxFest and ripped on himself. Hahn has obviously shown he can make quite a few mistakes. Look no further than this brutal offseason. ?
  13. Maybe people are just annoyed that their favorite team has garbage ownership and management and would like a change? Going cheap hit for them once in 88 years. Time to try something new. They have the money. All teams do. Going cheap and saving the profits isn’t winning them any extra games or gaining them any additional fans. Why berate fans for being upset and psychoanalyze their personal lives by saying they must be missing something instead of calling out the true culprits?
  14. Just give up while you’re behind. Semien also could have been dealt for another young prospect instead. It’s not like the Sox make all the right moves (see Tatis Jr.).
  15. A backup catcher for the Sox if he was still here because we have Castillo but it looks like Narvaez will be starting for the Mariners.
  16. Notice I didn’t say “really” good talent but a 27 year old catcher with a .794 OPS can be considered “good” talent. I’d rather have him as a backup catcher than McCann.
  17. Big FA contract to Machado, really lucky with Giolito and traded good talent for Colome. It could have happened to us too. Spending money can pay off. ?
  18. What history? That the Sox are cheap?
  19. Eh, we’ll see. He’s not even the prospect Jorge Soler once was and we see what happened there.
  20. But why? This isn’t some sort of Cubs curse thing. The Sox payroll was tiny this year and for the foreseeable future. The money was there to spend. It’s either the Sox front office completely bungled the negotiations with Machado or the Sox are simply too cheap and value profits over wins. The rebuild path didn’t need to take much longer when you can add 5 to 6 wins with one player acquisition.
  21. I’m personally not so much concerned with the losing as I am with missing out on Machado and Harper and the front office showing no signs of being willing to go to that level to sign a premier FA, meaning they will never land one. Adding Machado for nothing but money, and no associated draft pick compensation, could have been an improvement of 5 to 6 wins in one move. This, to me, is extremely frustrating.
  22. It’s a lot less surprising when you realize that this is the third year of a planned rebuild, the Sox have sucked for many more years than 3, and Hahn missed on his #1 target that he hinted at since last offseason. The Sox also aren’t doing a very good job of dispelling the fan notion that they are cheap.
  23. The stiffs Hahn gave $50 million to is the same amount of money he missed out on Machado by. Give me Machado’s youth and talent over Jon Jay and Yonder Alonso’s “leadership” any day of the week.
  24. Kris Bryant will likely end up earning a total of $70 to $75 million by going through the arbitration process year after year. Eloy has a long way to go to be as good as Bryant but it’s probably the best comparison. $43 million for 6 years or $77 million for 8 years has the potential to be a big savings of money if Eloy is everything he is expected to be.
  25. The Sox front office whiffed on their number one target this offseason and signed a bunch of stiffs, minus the two relievers they acquired, for the very same amount of money they refused to give Machado — around $50 million. Why are you surprised that Sox fans would be upset, especially after Hahn has talked about Machado for over a year?
