  1. And he’ll be 30 by the time he plays for us, if the Nationals don’t extend him or if Hahn is even able to sign him next offseason . No thanks, I’ll take the 26 year old that will put up the stats and bring more fans and publicity to the Sox. Rendon will only do one of those things.
  2. I doubt it matters. After the public fiasco with the Machado negotiations and the fan backlash, there is no good reason for Hahn or Kenny to be honest to a reporter when asked a question about Harper whether they are truly interested or not.
  3. Insider rumors aren’t even important anymore at this point with Arenado resigning with the Rockies. Even Hahn can’t argue with a straight face that another top free agent option will be available in the near future to spend the Machado money on. Anthony Rendon? Please. It’s Harper or bust and if Hahn and the Sox don’t realize this, they are either clueless or just don’t want to spend the market rate for a top MLB player. With Arenado being extended, there is now no excuse for Hahn not to spend the Machado money on Harper.
  4. Good news is the rumor was that Harper to the Phillies would be resolved by today (Tuesday). That hasn’t happened yet so maybe another team still has a shot at him. I won’t get my hopes up but maybe the Sox fan backlash has been communicated to JR and he won’t want to lose anymore fans? Yes Jerry, $325 million is a lot of money but think of the brand and fan building Harper would generate? Harper jerseys everywhere. Harper’s Homies in right field. Just do it.
  5. He has to be up this year. Keeping him down two weeks is the most you can scam him of a la Kris Bryant. It’s obvious he’s ready for the majors and his timetable can’t be solely dependent on the state of the rebuild and the Sox potentially not truly competing until the 2020 season. Just like how signing Harper this offseason wouldn’t be a waste, because you would have him for several more years in your window of competitiveness.
  6. I was wondering if Hahn was including the $45 million he wasted this offseason into the $250 million intended for Machado that he promised the Sox would still spend. Get Harper now, Rick. No one wants Rendon next offseason as the consolation prize.
  7. Who cares? More than one team is always better for negotiating? Just like job offers.
  8. So are we all in agreement that this proves the Sox offer to Machado was not market value? Arenado got $10 million more in guaranteed money than the Sox offer to Machado and Arenado only had the option to negotiate with one team. If he hits free agency, he likely gets more than $260 million from some team. The Sox need to nut up and sign Harper to make up for their embarrassing Machado negotiations.
  9. I don’t expect the Sox to push very hard for Harper or to sign him, which is very sad. Afterall, just because you didn’t snag your primary target at a cheap price, why would you not jump at a chance to sign the other 26 year old stud that would change your organization completely on the field and off? It will be mind-blowing if word comes out after Harper signs, that the Sox weren’t secretly pushing hard for Harper and talking to evil Scott Boras. There are no better free agent options in the near future with Arenado off the board so Hahn no longer has a good excuse for hanging onto the salary instead of going hard for Harper.
  10. It’s good to know about it before he is in the majors but I expect a TJ surgery in his near future.
  11. Great point. Hahn can’t really argue that the money will be spent anymore. There are no players available next offseason that are worth $250+ million. It’s Harper or bust.
  12. Like I’ve been repeating over and over, anyone who thinks that missing out on Machado and Harper is no big deal because they can sign other free agents in the future is nuts. If the Rockies didn’t lock up Arenado, the Yankees would have next offseason. Who is the next best guy available next offseason — Anthony Rendon? Total meh. This was the key offseason to sign a 26 year old stud. But at least Hahn contributed to the offseason by giving the Rockies a framework for Arenado’s deal. And the Rockies STILL gave more guaranteed money to Arenado than the Sox offered Machado.
  13. A vague post from iamshack. Go back and look at his and fathom’s posts.
  14. Well, as a listener I will always remember that Parkins interview over all others in which Paxson is served up questions on a tee to give a bunch of boring clicheed responses.
  15. Great point, and Parkins kept his job. And after Lawrence Holmes and his softball interview with Hahn, who would you rather have interviewing Chicago GMs regarding their poor decisions? Parkins is the man.
  16. I beg to differ. Most recently, the icons of insiderdom are still wetbutt23 and KatyPerrysBootyHole. They had it all... juicy trade info and stellar handles.
  17. I’m glad you are around to decrypt the insider talk. Any Sox / Harper news is good news. If the Sox steal Harper from the Phillies like the Padres stole Machado from the Sox, Hahn will once again be in our good graces and iamshack will be the greatest insider of all time.
  18. The point is, Eloy playing in he minors a few weeks into this season means jack. The Sox aren’t winning anything this year. There is no reason for him to be on the opening day roster. We are a team who won’t go 10 and $300 million on two 26 year old future Hall of Famers so we need to milk Eloy for everything he is worth.
  19. We already acquired Colome but you want ‘ol graybeard too?
  20. I am more shocked by the years than the money. Won’t he be 37 at the end of the contract?
  21. Time has already told. The market is set by how talented the player is and what teams are willing to pay for them. The $300 million mark isn’t anything new for premium young talent. Stanton set the mark not too long ago. If anyone is deserving of $300 million guaranteed, it would be the two 26 year old future Hall of Famers that were available this offseason. And if you aren’t offering 10 years then you aren’t getting the player, so how is that well thought out? It’s well thought out for the team’s advantage maybe but that won’t get the player signed. Hahn and the Sox either needs to be prepared to pay the market rate or stay in the kiddie pool with the rest of the non-spenders.
  22. Jones, CarGo, Span, Manny, Ken Griffey Jr., Erstad.
  23. “The Chicago White Sox, who met Harper earlier in this winter and offered Manny Machado an eight-year, $250 million deal, no longer are interested.” ?
