  1. 10-years, $325 million guaranteed. Opt-out after 5 years. Hahn wasted $45 million this offseason. Harper will help earn it back with his brand. I don’t see the problem.
  2. I think to take a guy like Madrigal as high as they did, he has to have plus defense at SS to make up for his lack of power. Hearing that his arm is too weak for SS is a bit disconcerting.
  3. Rutherford probably has to hit the weights like Ryan Sweeney should have. We’ll see what happens. Kopech could probably destroy him in bench lifting.
  4. Hahn has spent $45 million this offseason on a pile of mediocre 1-2 year stop-gaps which he said he wouldn’t do. He also missed out on Machado by $50 million guaranteed. It really isn’t better than nothing. This offseason has been an epic failure. It would be difficult to do worse than Hahn has this offseason.
  5. It’s more like wishing. Imagine Harper in a Sox jersey on the cover of MLB The Show 2019, imagine Sox fans everywhere in Harper jerseys, imagine fans actually showing up to GRate to watch Harper and Eloy. Is JR a moron or what?
  6. Indeed, you can also trade OF prospects like Basabe, Rutherford, Gonzalez, and Walker for other areas of need. Bring the sure thing in to pair with Eloy as your two mashers and hope that Moncada, Madrigal, and your young starters pan out.
  7. Why are the Sox remaining in touch unless they are willing to spend $325 to $350 million? Just do it already. Rutherford is a question mark as a prospect due to his lack of power. Think Ryan Sweeney. I would show Harper the money. Imagine a future outfield of Eloy / Robert / Harper.
  8. These uniforms are tight butthole. Meanwhile, Fulmer is still a bust.
  9. Extending Abreu would be a waste of money. He’s an aging slugger with no defensive skills. He will be a waste of money playing DH with a declining bat.
  10. The original problem is still the same — “same FO staff from 2008.” No one has any confidence in Hahn, Kenny, and JR to seize the opportunity and spend money when a perfect time like now becomes available to bring the rebuild to the next level of tacking on established talent.
  11. A lot of people were hopeful. The Sox had no payroll and two of the MLB’s youngest stars were hitting free agency. It made all the sense in the world for the Sox to land one of them. We were apparently all duped.
  12. How many times has Hahn also used the phrase “mired in mediocrity?” Fraud is right.
  13. I like your grades except I would swap the ones for Alonso and McCann. McCann is bad but he’s only $2.5 million of bad. Alonso is $9 million of mediocrity and Hahn helped free up money for a division rival. Also, Hahn’s family and friends plan wasn’t even necessary as Machado went to the highest bidder, as all free agents will.
  14. Hahn: “Well Kenny, we missed out on Manny. What’s next?” Kenny: “Don’t worry... have you seen how many great free agents are left?!? Span, Jones, CarGo! These guys were studs and I know they still have some gas left in the tank!” Hahn: “I did tell the fans we wouldn’t be signing anymore stop-gap players.” Kenny: “Don’t worry about that. Remember 2005? It worked then. That’s all the fans remember.”
  15. Excellent point. The Sox will prove Machado was right not to bet on himself at ages 33 and 34 to hit 550 plate appearances each season to make the two extra options hit. They will prevent Alonso’s 2020 $9 million dollar option from hitting by preventing him from reaching 550 plate appearances. Hahn and Kenny have gotten to the point of flat-out lying to the Sox fan base.
  16. So are you blaming the fans for being upset, or the incompetent front office for not delivering on their promise of a big time agree agent, or both? Because this is the main reason fans are upset. Expectations of the Sox spending money when the time was right, and not on stopgap retreads like all the previous years of losing. If your prediction is correct and that this is the same franchise that it has always been, the franchise is the problem, not the fans. They are the ones managing the team into the ground and alienating the fans.
  17. I do expect one of Jones / CarGo / Span to be in the OF on opening day.
  18. https://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20181204/report-thome-talks-up-white-sox-with-bryce-harper “The long term remains the priority. We aren't looking to do stopgap fixes, so to speak. In this free-agent market, there are potential opportunities to convert on premium talent that would fit along with what we're trying to develop for the long term.” Nova, Alonso, Jay, McCann, Santana... ?
  19. Hahn wishes he never showed interest in Machado last offseason or said a word about landing a top free agent. He sounded so confident that Sox fans bought into it. Hahn has to realize what an ass clown he looks like to Sox fans now, who were all with him up until Machado signed with San Diego. He is now realizing that the fans view him as no better than Kenny (a.k.a. one of the worst GMs in the MLB). You reap what you sew and it’s only fitting that Hahn gets Machado stolen from him by the same team that clowned him in the Shields for Tatis Jr. trade. Good luck, Rick.
  20. We have the advantage — Harper supposedly is not a fan of Philadelphia, likes Chicago, his dog is named Wrigley, and his BFF is Kris Bryant. If the Cubs don’t want him, at least he can still reside in Chicago so he and his wife can hang out with the Bryant’s. 26 years old, .900 career OPS, Rookie of the Year, 6x All-Star, 2015 MVP, and the face of MLB The Show 2019. What other player as young as 26 will become available in the near future that is as talented and marketable as Harper? We also have the DH spot for him to settle into at the end of the deal when he is in his mid-30’s. Show Harper the money, Jerry!
  21. The funny thing is, just think about the fan reaction one way or the other... Sign Harper, bring all the fans back, make tons of money in ticket, concessions, merchandise, etc. sales Whiff on Machado and pass on Harper, everything goes to shit. How do the Sox not realize this?
