  1. Hahn and the Sox don’t know what a good player is. They like to waste all of their allotted money on dumpster diving efforts. Go view the thread on all of Hahn’s signings since he became GM.
  2. Agreed. If the opt-out isn’t until 5 years into the deal, I don’t understand the hesitation to offer one. An opt-out after only 2-3 years would be mostly beneficial to the player but 5 years is reasonable and could save the team a lot of money on the back-end of the deal but they would still receive 5 years of a premium talent.
  3. The entire point of this offseason was landing a top talent. Hahn has been talking about it for a year. Remember the Machado trade rumors last offseason? This was Hahn’s plan. Now, since the Sox whiffed on Machado and potentially Harper, you are changing the narrative to acquiring free agents with lesser talents. This was not Hahn’s plan.
  4. Sox won’t land Arenado for reasons I already mentioned. Besides, he’s a worse option because he will be older (29 in the beginning of next season) and there are questions of the Coors effect. So try again please. What other players make up the “many” (to quote you) that will be available that are better options than Machado and Harper? You just named one guy who isn’t a better or more realistic option. And I’m breathing just fine. This is just an honest question.
  5. Gio will likely sign a one year deal. I could see Keuchel getting a 3, maybe 4 year deal. Neither guy makes much sense for the Sox now. Only if they would have added Machado or Harper.
  6. What do you think the going rate is for top free agents? And if you think 10 years and $300 million is a ridiculous price, then you are basically assuming the Sox will never sign a top free agent and should continue to waste money on mid-level free agent talent and their favorite strategy — dumpster diving. Also, please name some projected free agents that will be available in the future that the Sox will have a reasonable shot at landing who are better options than two 26 year old guys who are on Hall of Fame tracks with very little competition for their services. It seems that the Padres were the only other true competition for Mahado’s services and it appears that the Phillies are currently the only real competition for Harper’s services. Arenado will be 29 years old at the beginning of next season and if the Rockies don’t extend him, the Yankees are already rumored to be all over him if he hits free agency. So good luck with that. Trout? Yeah, pipe dream. Every team with money available will be all over the best player in the league. Posters continue to throw out this narrative that other good free agents will be available in the future but no one can ever name a realistic option for the Sox who is better than Machado or Harper considering the circumstances of this offseason with very little team interest and the Sox being one season away from the expected start of their team being competitive.
  7. True, which is why Jerry, Hahn, and Kenny can fix everything with one move, win back all of the pissed off fans, and bring an entire brand to the Sox. Unfortunately, I have no confidence in them making this move.
  8. None. Crappy Chicago weather only scares away basketball and baseball players! ?
  9. Jon Lester and Jason Heyward were big name free agents. One has been great and the other has been a huge bust but both are bigger name free agents than anyone the Sox have landed recently. The Bears just traded for and signed Mack to a massive deal. I am not a big Hawks follower so I won’t comment on them. Your comments about Chicago seem to be out of touch with reality. This does seem like more of a Sox and Bulls issue, a.k.a. ownership issue.
  10. I think Alonso would have gotten a major league deal but no where near $9 million. .740 OPS last year. He sure hit like a backup first baseman.
  11. Colome sure. But Herrera is on a 2-year, $18 million dollar deal. That is a bit pricey and his velocity supposedly dipped last year. Colome and Herrera will earn $16 million combined this year that Hahn could have included in his Machado offer.
  12. Please name a realistic target that will be better than two 26 year old future Hall of Famers with minimal competition for their services. I will wait patiently for your response. This was the best offseason to spend big on a free agent.
  13. Yep, if nothing else happens, it will likely be one of the worst. How many times did Hahn say he wouldn’t be signing stop-gaps and only be adding players that can expedite the rebuild on a long-term basis? He signed all the stop-gap guys and missed out on his single long-term target. Oops. How can anyone trust a word Hahn says anymore? Ivan Nova - $9 million (1 year) Yonder Alonso - $9 million (hopefully only 1 year) Kelvin Herrera - $9 million (likely 2 years) Alex Colome - $7.325 million (likely 2 years) Jon Jay - $4 million (1 year) James McCann - $2.5 million (1 year) Manny Machado - WHIFF!
  14. Agreed. I just wonder if the Sox had met in the middle and offered $275 million guaranteed earlier in the process if Machado would be a Sox or if he was always intent on getting $300 million.
  15. To appear that you are going after big time free agents to look good to your fans but truly only want to sign them at your own comfort level, including not going 10 years or including an opt-out. In any case, they got burned and I hope they realize the true fan reaction and respond by throwing a big offer at Harper.
  16. If it isn’t the worst, it’s definitely ranked up there. And here’s why... You don’t get Machado but are left with two good but pricey relievers and a bunch of mediocrity for $40+ million dollars. Ivan Nova - $9 million Yonder Alonso - $9 million Kelvin Herrera - $9 million Alex Colome - $7.325 million Jon Jay - $4 million James McCann - $2.5 million
  17. After whiffing on their ultimate target after making their chase of Machado so public, how could anyone expect the Sox to land Harper?
  18. Agreed. Otherwise their comments wouldn’t be so obscure.
  19. Lawrence Holmes just said he doesn’t think Harper is in the works based on the Hahn interview he held, although he thinks the Sox should be in on him. I think iamshack’s sources are as bad as whitesoxdave’s.
  20. The White Sox granted an exclusive interview with the ultimate softball lobber for a reason.
  21. Like the clowns who are failing miserably are going to admit any negatives haha. So they lose their jobs?
  22. There’s a reason the White Sox granted Holmes specifically the interview.
  23. Who? Washed up veterans that most teams don’t want?
