Sox may have interest in Maybin, per fake Cishek
Moan4Yoan replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He’s about as close to being borderline insider that I’ve seen. He could be legit or he could just be throwing a bunch of shit against the wall. It could go either way. -

Probably not but he can actually hit a bit. Like CWS said, he would make a much better starting outfielder than Engel if one of the starters went down with an injury. -

True, anything that gets Engel off the roster is fine with me. Late game defensive play when the Sox have a lead could be Leury and Maybin in the corners with Eloy and Mazara coming out of the game. -

Someone here mentioned him in the past because he’s a righty bat who can also play all three outfield positions but he’s actually a better hitter against righties than lefties. -
But he’s bad in the outfield and his power numbers are weak for a 1B/DH. The Cardinals were wise to deal him while teams still saw him as being valuable.

Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming
Moan4Yoan replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don’t buy it at all and I doubt a trade was ever close. I think they were just trying to show Manny their interest in him a year early in preparation for their wooing of him during last offseason. -
Screw yourself, Jon. Stay out of it and also, stay out of White Sox business while you’re at it. ??

Anyone who thought the Sox were legitimately going to trade for one year of Machado or Betts before they hit free agency was obviously clueless or not paying attention. -

No, he’s definitely not in the minority. 2 years of control does not help the Sox with long-term success and winning. -
It could but the Cardinals were rumored to be interested in Arenado just recently and we know the Rockies will want pitching in return. The Cardinals also have a top 3B prospect. The Cardinals may be looking to top the Cubs for the division with the Cubs sitting on their hands. With Liberatore and Gorman, they are looking like a perfect trade partner for the Rockies. https://www.si.com/mlb/2020/01/10/mlb-rumors-cardinals-arenado-betts

I agree with Harold’s Leg Lift: Matt Liberatore, Zack Thompson, and Nolan Gorman for Nolan Arenado and cash. I wonder how many times two 3B with the same first name (Nolan) were traded for each other?
-
Eh, probably not with 2 years of control already burned.
-
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cardinals overpay to get quite a bit of cash back. They don’t want to end up in luxury tax hell like the Cubs. I believe they are at around $168 million for 2020 right now.
-
That would work too.
-
Well, you know if the Cardinals are trading for Arenado, Gorman is a lock to be heading to Colorado as his replacement. You know the Rockies will also want pitching and the Cardinals didn’t have much until now so Liberatore will be in the deal. Carlson’s stock has soared and would make a nice replacement for an aging Blackmon and allow them to trade him for more young talent. An outfield of Dahl, Tapia, and Carlson would be nice. Speculating on cash amounts is too hard.
-
Matt Liberatore, Dylan Carlson, and Nolan Gorman for Arenado and cash. Do the Rockies say no?

Yep, two different people brought up Castellanos and Puig and he simply responded “No” to each of them. -
Quite a gamble with Arozarena being older than the competition at every level. He repeated A, AA, AAA, and is turning 25 next month. This looks like the Cardinals turning a whole lot of nothing into something of high value (Liberatore).
-
So the Rays wanted a mediocre 31 year old outfielder (ex-Sox prospect Jose Martinez) that badly and to jump 30 spots in the draft that they would give up their #4 overall and top pitching prospect? This looks like a St. Louis fleecing to me.
-
Draft picks involved... ”5:37PM: The trade is shaping up as a multi-player blockbuster, as The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (Twitter links) reports that the Cardinals and Rays are each sending three “pieces” to the other in the deal. “At least two of those pieces are draft picks,” Rosenthal notes, indicating that Competitive Balance Round selections (the only type of draft picks that can be traded) are in play. The Cards are slated to pick in Competitive Balance Round A following the first round of the draft, whereas the Rays draw after the second round in Competitive Balance Round B, so there is roughly a 30-slot gap between the two picks.”
-
I think both. What do the Cardinals need a 19 year old pitching prospect for when they are trying to compete now? Also, they are rumored to be dealing major league outfielder(s) to the Rays so bringing back Ozuna would make sense. The market for Ozuna and Castellanos seems to have stalled and they may come cheaper now.
-
This is exactly what I am thinking. And they re-sign Marcell Ozuna.
