You are correct. Ebron is only 26 and has upside. Graham is washed up. And I guess the answer is, Pace valued Graham at $9 million guaranteed over Ebron at $12 million, and that’s without knowing the guaranteed portion of Ebron’s deal. Pace is awful.
-
Pace going after those once big name vets a la Kenny Williams. At least when Kenny did it, the vets were usually cheap.
-
Exactly. Why are the Bears catering to a journeyman backup QB?
-
Pretty awful trade. Why did the Bears restructure his deal and make the trade even worse?
-
Bmags is spot on. This is Pace trying to save his job by signing mediocre vets and attempting to luck into a 10 win season and a playoff appearance. It’s so obvious it hurts.
-
Exactly, haha.
-
Back to mediocrity... oh well.
-
Sure, but if you are immediately trying to extend Newton, why even bring Trubisky back?
-
Do they have the money after signing Graham and Quinn? Newton is owed $18.6 million for next season.
-
Bears going after Cam Newton.
-
Cuz Pace. He has no idea how to value players. $30 million guaranteed to Robert Quinn and $9 million guaranteed to Jimmy Graham but he passes on good QB talent.

There’s just not a lot of upside to that type of player’s game, unless he can “hulk up” like Altuve. -
He is doing his best to keep the Bears in NFL hell.

Tom Brady announced via his Instagram that he won’t be back with the Patriots. Chargers or Bucs I presume.
-
What team would want him? And adding Foles or Dalton? To what end? More mediocrity?
-
At least Mariota is close to a deal with the Raiders already so Pace can’t sign him too. Fire the guy already. Pace is awful. Or at least have someone else pick a TE. Bears signed TE Jimmy Graham, formerly of the Packers, to a two-year, $16 million contract. GM Ryan Pace has an infatuation with free-agent tight ends, though none of them have ever worked out for him, dating back to Dion Sims and Trey Burton. Graham was released by the Packers last week and looks washed as he heads into his age-34 season. Graham did very little with Aaron Rodgers, so we're not going to hold our breath with him in Chicago where he'll play with Mitchell Trubisky or possibly Nick Foles or Andy Dalton, who have been linked to the Bears in trade rumors. $10 million guaranteed for Dion Sims. $18 million guaranteed for Trey Burton. Wasted a 2nd round pick on Adam Shaheen. $9 million guaranteed for Jimmy Graham. Simply amazing.

Is it really “institutional racism”? Is the Sox “clubhouse culture” no longer racist because the majority of players on the team are now from Latin America instead of being a majority of white players? How is the “clubhouse culture” less racist now that Latin Americans are creating and owning this culture as opposed to white players? Wouldn’t it still be racist then, but in favor of Latin “clubhouse culture” as opposed to white “clubhouse culture”? It seems to me that it’s simply more of a numbers game and the majority of one race being on the team is likely the group that creates and owns the “clubhouse culture” of the team, moreso than simply resorting to blaming racism for everything. I watched this video and most of it sounded like rookie hazing by veterans. It didn’t sound all race-related. And I bet it’s pretty safe to assume that the older white veterans were hazing the young white rookies as well. -
Are the Sox really not going to platoon Mazara in right field?

Agreed on all of the above. This is why many people wanted to see the Sox add another righty bench bat who could play RF and actually hit lefties. Engel doesn’t cut it. -
A scrub journeyman AAA outfielder.

Bruce Levine on The Score still doesn’t know anything about regaining service time on Kopech by keeping him in the minors. He also thinks Kopech may have more value as a closer than a starter. This guy gets paid to talk about baseball.

I think Hahn is dreaming when he expects a future RF to come from the farm. I don’t think any of them (Adolfo, Rutherford, Gonzalez) pan out as Hahn expects. Basabe will make it as a fourth outfielder. I really hope they sign Colas. -

That could be the greatest post in SoxTalk history but I will never know because I couldn’t make it past the first 2 of 50 bolded, italicized, individually-spaced sentences. -
Unless Grandal gets injured, a season of backup catcher at bats isn’t helping McCann prove that last season wasn’t a fluke so he can get paid next offseason.
