  1. Rangers got their starting catcher — Robinson Chirinos. https://mobile.twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1214734651673206789
  2. In an offseason in which Betances coming back from an injury was probably the top free agent reliever available, Cishek was definitely up there.
  3. This still doesn’t make sense to me. We are still waiting on the Bryant grievance decision and they would still have to work a trade for to free up money. And adding Castellanos will just add that money back.
  4. I like the idea of adding a couple more relievers on minor league deals. Marshall and Cordero don’t have much of a history of success.
  5. Best reliever left on the board and a groundball guy who can still rack up some strikeouts. Anyone else impressed how Hahn signed him for only one year guaranteed with a second year option? Most of these older relievers are signing for two to three years. Just like how he shaved off the additional year for Keuchel? Now sign Cody Allen to a minor league deal and see if he has anything left in Spring Training.
  6. Did anyone hear Pace’s comments regarding not having their top two tight ends in Burton and Shaheen available? He was using it as an excuse for lack of offensive production. Before Shaheen’s “foot injury”, Nagy chose not to play him and he was a healthy scratch. He was available and Nagy still didn’t want to play him. Pace gave Burton $18 million guaranteed and wasted a 2nd round pick on Shaheen and both have been massive busts. Who does Pace think he is fooling?
  7. For that price, he’s worth it. However, he simply walks too many guys.
  8. Apparently, it was to make room for the official signing of Corey Dickerson. Brice is 27 years old and had some good numbers last season. I guess he faded in the second half. But surely some NL team will claim him.
  9. I’m pretty sure oldsox’s comment is more of an indictment of Eloy and Mazara’s defense than Robert’s speed. His point is that no super stud center fielder can make up for the massive defensive deficiencies of Eloy and Mazara. Mazara isn’t very good and Eloy is a DH.
  10. $33 million and the guy is turning 32. That’s a little pricey to find out if he still has it or not. I’m not sure what the Cubs would expect in return or how much cash they would be willing to throw in.
  11. No, it wouldn’t be similar to the Borchard for Thornton trade. There is a lot more money at play here. The Sox are giving up two relievers, including a good closer, for one closer who had a bad year. The Sox need more relievers, not less. Colome = $10.3 million arbitration estimate in 2020 Herrera = $8.5 million in 2020, plus $1 million buyout Kimbrel = $16 million in 2020, $16 million in 2021, plus $1 million buyout So Colome and Herrera are still owed almost $19 million in 2020 while Kimbrel is owed $16 million. So while the Cubs may be freeing up money for 2021, this does nothing for them this season. And you also said the Cubs would be sending money to the Sox in the deal. How does this trade improve the Sox bullpen or reduce the Cubs payroll for 2020?
  12. This trade would make zero sense for either team. We trade a good closer and a reliever coming off a bad year for a closer coming off a bad year? And the Cubs send money? How does this proposed trade improve the Sox or free up any money for the Cubs this year? ?
  13. Kimbrel is owed $33 million over the next two years. I’ll pass, even if the Cubs threw in cash.
  14. Shogo Akiyama to the Reds is official. 3-years, $21 million. The Cubs counter with a big minor league signing of infielder Carlos Asuaje. ? https://mobile.twitter.com/sahadevsharma/status/1214330712612057088
  15. Eric Thames to the Nationals... https://mobile.twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1214311340883533824 Donaldson to the Braves?
  16. It doesn’t matter what I’m FOR. We all know it isn’t happening regardless.
  17. I know he’s available via trade now and also next offseason. I also know the Sox won’t be acquiring him at either point in time. I know it’s a move everyone would love but it’s not happening, just like Machado/Harper/Cole/Rendon didn’t happen. The Sox don’t assign that much payroll to one player.
  18. Exactly. Neither scenario is going to happen but signing Betts as a free agent next offseason makes way more sense than trading for him now.
  19. Because the Sox would then be tied to Price for the next three years. That isn’t ideal when they have starters in the pipeline like Dunning and Stiever.
  20. The Sox are definitely done with rotation moves. All that’s really left is a reliever or two and a right-handed hitting utility guy (infielder/outfielder).
  21. Steve Stone shot down Kela pretty hard due to his clubhouse antics. Givens was a suggestion by Fathom.
  22. Agreed. I don’t think Yolmer will get the money he wants but I also don’t think he is worth bringing back. Like you said, Iglesias was probably never an option because he was looking for a place to start.
  23. Cishek or McHugh would still be good but it sure doesn’t seem like the Sox are looking to spend too much on these guys.
