Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming

That would be like getting coal in your stocking. -
He probably sucks at Minecraft as much as he does evaluating player values.

I think if the Sox wanted Sanchez back, they would’ve already resigned him by now. -
Mets signed OF Ryan Cordell to a minor league contract. The former highly-touted prospect struggled at the dish last year with the White Sox, slashing a paltry .221/.290/.355 with seven home runs and 24 RBI in 247 plate appearances. Cordell will serve as organizational depth for the Mets, who already have plenty of outfield options at the major league level. Yoenis Cespedes wasn’t apparently telling the entire truth about how he got injured on his ranch. The reason he fell in the hole and hurt his ankle is because he was attacked by a released wild boar. https://www.amazinavenue.com/2020/1/3/21048985/new-york-mets-news-yoenis-cespedes-injury-ankle-boar-30-50-feral-hogs

I was wondering the same thing. He’s young and his minor league numbers look pretty good for a catcher. I don’t know what his defense is like but maybe he could improve with the bat like Narvaez. -
Eh, I think the Nationals are just hedging their bet. They are still going after Donaldson. If they sign Donaldson, Cabrera will be their utility infielder with Starlin Castro at 2B. If they miss out on Donaldson, they will likely start Cabrera at 3B. $2.5 million is backup money.

Asdrubal Cabrera resigns with the Nationals for 1-year, $2.5 million. Cheap. https://mobile.twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1213478520606855174

Sox are trading McCann. This move cinches it... ? White Sox signed C Xavier Fernandez to a minor league contract. The 24-year-old backstop spent the first seven seasons of his professional career in the Royals' organization. A career .272/.334/.407 hitter in the minors, Fernandez adds organizational depth behind the plate. -

Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM and 670thescore.com reports that James McCann "is a prime candidate to be dealt" if the White Sox make a trade for a reliever. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported last month that the White Sox "would need to be overwhelmed" to trade McCann, but the reality is that he's set to make $5.4 million in 2020 but isn't in line for much playing time following the team's additions of Yasmani Grandal and Edwin Encarnacion. McCann faded badly in the second half this past season, but he made the All-Star team after a strong first half and is worthy of being a starter somewhere. -
Would you extend Nick Madrigal? For how much?
Moan4Yoan replied to Bananarchy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I disagree due to his complete lack of power. I mentioned him already but remember Jeremy Reed? Similar type of hitter as Madrigal. Reed actually had slightly better minor league numbers than Madrigal and he busted big time. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=6708 -

This. Sure, he could be the next Pedroia or Altuve if he ever ever gains some muscle and develops some power. But he also has high bust potential, and by bust I mean a mediocre infielder like David Eckstein. There’s no reason to potentially overpay him until you see what he can do. Anyone remember Jeremy Reed? He was an outfielder that didn’t strike out much at all, hit for a very high average, but had no power whatsoever. Dude crashed and burned in the majors. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=6708 -
Yes, and he can apparently play RF and both bats and throws lefty. We have Mazara for up to two years. This guy would be a nice replacement if he’s legit.
-
Sign him up. He could replace Mazara in RF in a year or two. All the Cubans!

Engel doesn’t get you anything. Many teams have an all glove no bat fourth outfielder.

I would’ve agreed with this before the Sox signed Encarnacion. He’s your full time DH and McCann isn’t going to outhit him. -
If he was still truly in charge, I’m not so sure the Sox ever rebuild. That dude would be dumpster diving every season trying to win with a low payroll. I assume Hahn convinced Kenny and Jerry to attempt the rebuild.

Rangers and Reds? He would definitely be a full time starter for the Rangers . -

Why would Renteria or a direct Sox source want to share that one of their players is unhappy? To sabotage his trade value? Like BackDoorBreach said above, McCann being relegated to backup catcher duties could cost him millions of dollars. Why would this be a surprise? -

You don’t think that could’ve just been “coach speak” from Renteria and that a 29 year old catcher who was an All Star last year would be upset about his now drastically reduced playing time? If McCann repeated his numbers from last season in 2020, he would likely be in line for a big long-term contract via free agency. Without much playing time now as a backup, he won’t get to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke to teams that need a catcher next offseason. A year before he hits unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career, he is made a backup? I totally buy this rumor. It makes all the logical sense in the world. -

McCann was already unlikely to stay past 2020 the minute the Sox signed Grandal. With Collins around, it makes even less sense. Many of us thought they should sell high on McCann regardless. If there is any truth to his unhappiness, Hahn should definitely deal him. -
The Sox traded Nate Jones to the Rangers, along with international slot money, last trade deadline for a couple bum arms to avoid paying out Jones’ $1.25 million dollar buyout. The Rangers paid it in October and Jones is a free agent. Rangers acquired RHP Nate Jones, international slot compensation and cash from the White Sox for RHPs Joe Jarneski and Ray Castro.

Exactly the problem, IMO. He has been tweeting about Mazara being a bench bat and the Sox going after Puig which makes me question how legit he is. As a Sox fan, I could’ve told you the second Hahn traded for Mazara that he was acquired to be our starting right fielder.
