  1. Wow, new news on Puig from another source... as long as his source isn’t Hector Gomez or Heyman.
  2. Avisail Garcia got 2/$20 but you don’t think Puig could get that? If Puig signs a one year deal, it’s probably intentional, not just because it’s the most he could get.
  3. Yeah, his splits are worse against lefties but they are still better than most other options so that isn’t a big enough reason not to add him. Also, the Sox have been interested in Puig in the past so this isn’t a huge surprise that they are mentioned in rumors around him. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/08/31/report-white-sox-placed-claim-on-yasiel-puig-but-werent-awarded-him/ We all know Hahn and Kenny have their favorite players that they continue to try to acquire if they don’t at first succeed. If they don’t think his past clubhouse issues will be a problem in Chicago, it’s likely that they think Abreu can keep his ass in check.
  4. I wouldn’t be opposed to this but I don’t know if I believe these rumors. If Puig is looking for a one year pillow contract to build his value for a long-term deal next offseason, he would get less at bats with the Sox than a team like the Marlins where he would play full-time. The lesser reason I’m not sure I buy this is that Puig has reverse splits and hits righties better than lefties. I wouldn’t mind seeing it happen because the more good bats the better and he could cover for Mazara potentially being a bust but I don’t think it will.
  5. Trading Collins would not fit in with what Hahn has talked about regarding keeping the young talent around for years for long-term success. Unless the Sox have completely soured on Collins’ ability to catch and/or hit, I don’t see them trading him away just because they have McCann around for one more year.
  6. Look at his splits against lefties. The idea is that Pillar would be a bench bat that starts in RF against lefties and yes, he is better than Engel.
  7. Eh, he’s bad. He was bad with the Cubs and he is bad with the Sox. His niche is working with young players, not game management. I wouldn’t mind him as a bench coach but not as a manager.
  8. Now that there are expectations of competing for the division and each and every game will likely count for something, the lens will be focused a lot more on Renteria’s in-game management.
  9. I think this is a bit hyperbole and I know it won’t happen but I wouldn’t mind if Hahn replaced RR this offseason.
  10. Bruce says that it’s $11 million for 2020 with a $1 million signing bonus. Is EE hard up for some quick cash? https://mobile.twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine/status/1210029498047049735
  11. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/edwin-encarnacion-white-sox-deal “The White Sox and free-agent slugger Edwin Encarnación have agreed to a one-year deal worth $12 million, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Wednesday. The deal includes a club option for 2021, also worth $12 million, which does not have a buyout.“
  12. I know he has no room on the roster as it currently stands but I still don’t want this to happen.
  13. Pillar and a good reliever, along with some flier reliever minor league signings.
  14. The curse of winning the offseason, haha. Didn’t the Sox “win the offseason” when they added Samadzija, Melky, and Robertson?
  15. I’m not embarrassed at all and I said I am happy with the moves that have been made. But you are acting like the Sox are spending crazy money. The Sox payroll was higher almost ten years ago in 2011. It isn’t a narrative at all.
  16. I’m very happy with all the moves but the payroll is still only at around $120 million. That’s still in the bottom third of MLB teams after years of being at the bottom.
  17. There’s still an argument to be made that they could have done better in RF over Mazara. I guess we will find out next season if the move pays off.
  18. What does signing EE have to do with people not liking the Mazara acquisition?
  19. Sounds like the deal for EE is as follows: 2020: $11 million 2021: $12 million team option or $1 million buyout
  20. I like the Pillar idea. Most of the relievers are so old and likely fluky by nature, I’m not picky there.
  21. Exactly. There is no reason to extend Madrigal until you see how his all contact / no power approach plays in the majors.
