But Pillar makes sense and I’d definitely rather have him over Engel.
-
I wouldn’t bet a dollar on Calhoun maintaining any sort of consistency with his offensive numbers at age 32, considering how awful he has been with the bat in the recent past.
-
No, he won’t.
-
No, I don’t think this would make any sense for him coming off of an .863 OPS season and looking like a house of fire for the Cubs once he was traded to a contender. He already proved whatever you are expecting from him. He’s not going to pass on $60+ million guaranteed this offseason, risk injury, and hope he does better next year. He is 27 years old, in his prime, and this is his best chance at a big fat long-term contract considering his age and performance last season.

I assume he is referring the the post that CWS was replying to.

That sucks hard.

$14 million dollar team option for 2020? He Just got $16 million over two years.

Very happy we didn’t sign this scrub. https://mobile.twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/1209523459887382528

Free Agent relief pitcher ideas besides Betances

He never pitched for Seattle after being traded there. He had surgery to repair a torn right labrum last April. He is a free agent but his arm is probably toast at this point. -

Cody Allen on a minor league deal anyone? https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2019/12/cleveland-indians-former-closer-cody-allen-trying-to-get-back-to-the-big-leagues.html -
Merkin hinting at the Sox remaining targets for the offseason: https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-offseason-needs-and-moves DH (mentions Encarnacion) RF (a right-handed bat to complement Mazara) Reliever

I actually buy it this time but as you know, Hector also defended Frank Castillo’s report that the Sox signed Marcell Ozuna.
-
Keuchel wasn’t but the rest were.
-
None of these guys is a sure-bet major leaguer. The guy with the best shot is probably Basabe as a fourth outfielder.
-
He’s a good option. Decent splits against lefties and could also platoon with Mazara once Robert is called up.
-
I would. I have no idea where this new idea came from that some posters would be okay with a Mazara / Engel platoon in RF. From 89 plate appearances against lefties? Small sample size.
-
No, no way. No legitimate contender has discussions in the offseason about how they will have players like Engel or Leury in RF part time.
-
There are a lot of options. If you sign Castellanos and Mazara is mediocre or bad, you can just non-tender Mazara and keep Castellanos in RF and still have room at DH/1B for Vaughn. I just don’t believe the Sox will have any shot at Betts or Springer.
-
Agreed. Betts is a pipe dream. Springer is better and will have many more suitors but he will also be 31 next offseason so he’s not ideal either. Sign good young players when you have a shot at them.
-
And then there are also players who are better than Castellanos but the Sox will have no chance to sign like Betts and Springer. Spend the money on targets that are attainable. Don’t hold onto money for targets that you won’t be able to sign.
-
The key is that Morosi is reporting this, not Heyman. Heyman is Boras’s plant, not Morosi, from what I recall.
-
And a new network that will make them even more money at $10 to $12 bucks a pop per household per month. And the lemmings will still pay for it, even at the end of their era of being good.
-
I’m not buying this. Castellanos is banking on the Bryant ruling going the Cubs way, which reportedly won’t happen until 2020 so they can trade Bryant, and free up money for him? What if the ruling doesn’t go the Cubs way? What if they still can’t get a good enough return for Bryant in a trade even if they retain two years of his control after the grievance ruling? That’s simply way too many “if’s” for Castellanos to be banking on. You buy into Chicago media BS a bit too much. Did some Cubs radio lemming on The Score say this?
