They do care about service time. I have no doubt Eloy doesn’t make the opening day roster last season if he didn’t sign the extension. Same goes for Robert and Madrigal this season.

I don’t believe Betts is a realistic get at all and Springer will also be paid a ton and will be on the wrong side of 30 next offseason. If the Sox can sign 27 year old Castellanos to a reasonable deal this offseason, even with his defensive issues, I won’t mind at all.

If he was a righty bat, he would make more sense cuz he could platoon with Mazara in RF after playing 2B until Madrigal is ready. I’d rather stick with Mendick and add a right-handed RF to platoon with Mazara, along with Encarnacion for DH.
