  1. Avi Garcia is no longer a Sox player, yet this thread is in Pale Hose Talk. Discussions around Mazara are more relevant to the Sox. Totally.
  2. And if he does boom with the Sox within the next two seasons, he becomes a free agent and another team can steal him away in free agency. While Mazara’s youth is great, his short two years of control negates quite a bit of its value.
  3. If Mazara goes by the same development timeline as Avi, in Quin’s scenario, the Sox may give up on him before he booms.
  4. And just like Avi, Mazara may be on another team by the time that happens. Hence, my comment on only having 2 years of control.
  5. I meant in comparison to Avi’s age. I don’t think Avi is exactly past his prime at age 28. It also wouldn’t be a compete surprise for Avi to outperform Mazara next season. He did last season (2 WAR vs 0.7 WAR). And Mazara’s handedness isn’t making up for a 1.3 WAR difference.
  6. I believe Mazara’s arbitration number is estimated at around $6 million for 2020. If that number jumps to $9 or $10 million for 2021, it isn’t that far off from Avi’s new deal. Also, Mazara’s age doesn’t matter very much with only two years of control, unless you are talking about extending him.
  7. If Ryu was willing to settle for a 2 year deal, even with a high AAV, I think he would probably be signed already. He is probably getting offered 3 year deals and holding out for a 4 year contract.
  8. It has everything to do with your post. You made a comment that 25% of posters wanted Avi back, insinuating that it would have been a bad move. Instead, the Sox acquired an extremely similar hitter to Avi for the exact same number of years. It’s quite ironic.
  9. Instead, we acquired the left handed version of Avi for two years.
  10. How about the Sox just spend the money they haven’t over the last few years of the rebuild, as was promised by Hahn, and there will be greater potential for winning and for everyone to enjoy the team more?
  11. Why is one more year the ultimate dealbreaker?
  12. That’s fine and reasonable but no one wanted to pay Bumgarner $120 million and Keuchel $80 million regardless.
  13. But Bumgarner already signed for $85 million, far less than $120 million, and Keuchel hasn’t even signed yet so quite frankly you are talking out of your ass.
  14. Yes, there was and still is. Go after the next best options... Bumgarner for $85 million which was $33 million dollars less than Wheeler signed for. Ryu and Keuchel are still available. There were and still are options available. Just because you miss out on your “Plan A” doesn’t mean you completely stop trying. That is a loser’s mentality. You seem to be making excuses for Hahn and the Sox.
  15. How are two bargain basement starters better than one of Ryu/Keuchel and a secondary flier SP if the Sox are trying to win next year?
  16. I like Alex Wood but we don’t need to go to the Nova well again.
  17. Please take a look at what King Félix has done the last three seasons before advocating to sign him. He’s completely done. I’ll even give you the link: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hernafe02.shtml
  18. Yes, the one nice thing about being a T-Mobile customer before I got sick of coverage, dropped calls, and data speed issues. Xfinity Mobile for $45 per month for a single line is awesome but I do miss the free MLB.TV with T-Mobile.
  19. Two “depth purposes” starters isn’t good enough.
  20. Any blackout issues can always be solved by a simple *cough* VPN app *cough*.
  21. We have four starters right now (with one coming back from TJ and another who may not be good enough to stay in the rotation) along with one Dylan Covey. To not sign a good starter when there were various options available this offseason and the Sox having money to spend is ludicrous. It would be an admission that they aren’t even really trying to win.
  22. As opposed to wasting a season of control over Giolito, Kopech, and Moncada? Yes, sign one of those guys. Besides the fact that you are throwing out high numbers that neither pitcher may get.
  23. https://mobile.twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1206362638529302529 8 teams interested in two starters. Good luck, Rick.
