  1. If Alex Wood is only $8 million for one year, which is entirely plausible, sign him as the second starter regardless of acquiring Price. Hahn paid more for Nova last season.
  2. I know money is always a factor but I didn’t think I’d ever see someone post that they’d rather have Ivan Nova than David Price. Wow.
  3. Honestly, acquiring Price doesn’t make much sense for any team if the Red Sox don’t include a guy like Benintendi so I’m not sure what kind of BS their GM is trying to sell. Why wouldn’t a team just sign one of the free agent lefties (Bumgarner, Ryu, or Keuchel) for less money?
  4. I figure you would mostly have Benintendi and Robert in the outfield and Eloy and Mazara could cycle between the outfield and DH. Benintendi’s overall WAR would essentially be replacing our WAR from the expected DH position (whatever that would have been), along with a combination of Eloy’s and Mazara’s negative WAR on defense. ? That would improve both the offense and the defense. And who knows, it wouldn’t be crazy to think Price could match or exceed Wheeler’s WAR on his own if he pitches more like his 2018 self rather than last year. If Price and Benintendi produce more like their 2018 seasons, you might get 8 WAR from them combined. I don’t see any free agents worth throwing money at right now that can provide this kind of upside in one move.
  5. I agree. I was including the Renteria factor into my projected lineup.
  6. I realize he’s awesome but he’s a free agent after 2020. Give me 3 years of Ben Nintendo.
  7. Yeah, obviously it’s a no go if they want Vaughn and Madrigal. If the Sox could get Price and Benintendi, along with some cash, for Collins and some additional prospects (Stiever?), I’d be all over it.
  8. Am I crazy to think Price and Benintendi for the next 3 years would be better than Wheeler for the next 5 years if the money is the same (around $118 million)? Obviously, you would also have to factor in what the Sox would have to give up.
  9. You are probably right. I wouldn’t want to move Vaughn, but that stupid Abreu extension sure made him less of a priority to keep. Really upsetting.
  10. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine the Sox doing better on the free agent market than adding two quality players like Price and Benintendi for the next 3 years for $96 million plus Benintendi’s arbitration salaries.
  11. Add a couple relievers and another starter/swing-man type and I don’t see how this team couldn’t compete for the division / Wild Card... that lineup would be stacked. 2B Madrigal LF Benintendi 3B Moncada 1B Abreu C Grandal DH Eloy RF Mazara SS Anderson CF Robert Giolito Price Kopech Cease Lopez / Rodon
  12. It is starting to look that way. What is left after that? Pray for Price and dumpster diving for the Nova’s of the MLB?
  13. Good article. Thanks for posting. I wish the Red Sox would be a bit more reasonable (or desperate) in their effort to cut salary. Price would help our rotation and an outfield of Benintendi, Robert, and Mazara/Eloy with mainly Mazara and Eloy rotating at DH could be pretty damn good.
  14. That makes sense. I did notice he is now an assistant softball coach for Fresno State University. I don’t know what the Sox paid him but that sure does seem to be a worse than lateral move.
  15. Shouldn’t the Sox already know the role and responsibilities they envision for a new position when they hire someone?
  16. I will give Hahn credit for Grandal which was an amazing signing but I expected more. It doesn’t appear that the Sox want to get involved in the bidding for the next tier of free agent starting pitchers (Bumgarner, Ryu, Keuchel).
  17. The Sox are living in the Stone Age of baseball.
  18. According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Padres, Cardinals, White Sox, Reds, and Angels are "in play" for a David Price trade.
  19. This specific phrase is Hahn’s most overused and it annoys me every time I hear him utter it.
  20. Nice to see our GM already backtracking on his own initial comments about adding serious talent this offseason, including two starting pitchers.
  21. After already signing Treinen, the Dodgers are going after Betances as well... https://mobile.twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/1205185394020536320
  22. Hahn with some more slow-playing of the market thinking that prices will go down. Hahn thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room and usually ends up looking like a fool.
  23. They spent $42 million on Alonso, Nova, Herrera, Jay, and Santana. I still don’t think the great signing of McCann makes up for all of that. Grandal was an excellent start this offseason but some of that needlessly spent money from last offseason could’ve been used to convincing Wheeler to sign here than with the Phillies.
  24. Agreed. $75 million isn’t going to kill this team, even at that high AAV and I suspect that the final prices for Ryu and Keuchel will surprise a lot of people as well.
  25. They basically wasted around $42 million dollars last offseason on Alonso, Nova, Herrera, Jay, and Santana.
