I’m sure someone could come up with a list of highly touted 25 year old major leaguers who have done nothing in the league thus far that you wouldn’t want to acquire.

The dusty hideous object named Mazara doesn’t fit our needs either, other than being cheap.

Indeed, so true. Years of a pathetic front office with Kenny and Hahn acquiring cheap bums have made people think Mazara is a good acquisition when the Sox are trying to compete. The expectations are so ridiculously low, it’s hilarious. Yankees fans would shit all over this trade and wonder why the hell their GM is acquiring such a crappy player.

Sure, but that’s the problem. Which player is something and which one is almost nothing? Both Walker and Mazara could fit the bill for almost nothings.

I prefer productive players, even if a larger price is attached. You and the Sox front office apparently prefer to dumpster dive for trash (i.e. inexpensive and unproductive players) and pray that they pan out.

Yes, that it. ? It’s not that people are wondering why the hell the Sox settled for a flawed outfielder when better outfielders are currently still available. You can’t address this because you have no answer.

Obviously Ozuna and Castellanos would be much more expensive. A guy like Corey Dickerson would not be but could likely put up similar numbers to Mazara for two years. And it’s up to Hahn and his front office team to have all the answers, not me. This is a piss-poor move and you should be questioning where all the money is going that they said they would spend.

There are more than three options, and it doesn’t matter much what I would pay. Time will tell their prices when they all eventually sign or are acquired. Weren’t the Sox supposed to spend money this offseason? “The money will be spent.”

The player traded for Mazara wasn’t the only option to play RF other than Mazara. But let’s try to avoid that aspect.

What better starting pitcher do you envision the Sox acquiring?

And Mazara is a 1.8 WAR player over 2189 PA’s. He does suck.

It’s about the other outfield options available and their price versus Mazara. Not just about Steele Walker.

Exactly. It’s about Mazara versus the rest of the remaining outfield options, not versus Walker.

So going for bad and cheap players and hoping for their upside to materialize in two seasons is the better plan than paying more money for established and more productive players?

Walker is gone and I don’t miss him all that much. Once again, what does Mazara do for this team that is trying to win during their competitive window as opposed to the potentially better options still very much available?

But it’s not all about Walker! Sure, some people think the Sox gave up too much by giving up Walker. Personally, I’m more disappointed because I don’t believe that Mazara improves the Sox very much as opposed to other options that are still available. The real question is — what does Mazara do for this team in making it a contender and how is he better than other options that are still available?

This offseason, the entire MLB essentially recognized that Wheeler is a better SP target than Keuchel but somehow The Sir doesn’t get it. Amazing.

Yes, and we have Mazara locked up for a whopping two seasons as a result of him entering the MLB so early. But then again, who cares about him being locked up considering he can’t accumulate 1 WAR per season.
