And That's A Slammin' White Sox Winner !
Moan4Yoan replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A lot of positives for next year but don’t waste your typing fingers on Yolmer and Palka. -
Calhoun is mediocrity personified. Just because he is better than what the Sox had in RF this year, why are some posters entertaining his potential signing like it would be a good one?!? He is OPS’ing over .800 now but he’s .745 for his career. For a corner OF who doesn’t play good defense, he doesn’t hit well enough either to make up for his weak glove. He’s an awful target other than the fact than he’s a lefty bat. .235 hitter right now. He will be a cheaper Adam Dunn Lite here. And he is turning 32 in a month. Stay the hell away from this guy please. The Sox could and should easily do better.
-
Eh, you are probably right but he is under control through 2021. If it was only 2020, I would agree with your for sure.
-
Eh, Rutherford would definitely not be the right cross to die on in support of your message.

Yolmer contemplates not being on the Sox

Yolmer contemplates not being on the Sox
Moan4Yoan replied to BackDoorBreach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If it’s $3 million, sure I agree. But if it’s $5 to $6 million, goodbye. He made $4.625 million this season. I’d rather sign a vet reliever to a one year deal for that money. Also funny how the Yolmer love comes out when he goes 4 for 6 tonight at the plate which is completely rare for him. Rare isn’t even the word for it. He basically hit the lottery tonight at the plate. -
Would I want Maddon if I had my choice of any manager? No. Would I want Maddon over Renteria or Vizquel or any other terrible manager the Sox will likely go with? Yes, of course.

What has Yolmer done in the majors? If you want an all glove, no bat backup infielder, they come cheaper than $5 to $6 million. -
Sox@Tigers 6:05 NBCSN-CHI Cease vs. Zimmermann
Moan4Yoan replied to Jack Parkman's topic in 2019 Season in Review
If Eloy does this in his rookie season while missing significant time with two injuries, he’s gonna be a monster. With his oppo power and the juiced ball, he’s going to also hit a lot of extra cheapie homers when he’s not hitting 450 foot bombs. -

Cease is pumping his change and they cant touch it. If they do, they hit a reaching over popup. -
One could argue the Sox not going after Rendon due to Moncada at 3B and Madrigal at 2B but not going after Cole would purely be due to his price because the Sox obviously need rotation help.
-
$25 million per year won’t be that much of an albatross five or so years down the road. And even if it is, how much of the extra attendance Harper brings will have paid off his entire contract by then? I guess we don’t know the numbers but I’m sure any other big name available for the Sox to sign this time around, such as Cole, would not provide anywhere near as much of this same benefit.
-
I said bat but I’d take Cole on the pitching side. I guess I should have added the qualifier “Who WILL the Sox sign”, not who CAN they sign because I don’t see that one happening either. I think the Sox were willing to give a massive contract to a position player like Harpchado but not to a pitcher like Cole due to the added injury risk.
-
His .870 OPS, the added fans, promotions, and money would have surely been worth it. Harper is a draw. The Phillies attendance jumped from 17th overall in the MLB last year to 10th overall this year. Not bad for a team that is currently 78-73.
-
To the people who are happy the Sox didn’t sign Machado and/or Harper last offseason — which young free agent can the Sox now sign to fill their massive hole in RF that would be as big of an addition as one of those two 26 year old free agents last season would have been? Who is your big bat this offseason for RF that will make us happy we didn’t sign one of Harpchado last offseason? I can hear the crickets already.

Yolmer contemplates not being on the Sox
Moan4Yoan replied to BackDoorBreach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There’s just no reason to spend money on Yolmer when Mendick could fill in as a mediocre utility infielder for the minimum. Yolmer’s money would be much better spent on a one year deal for an established reliever. The Sox will also have Yolbert Sanchez down the line as a backup infielder. -
Eh, that’s a pretty small sample size. David Price sucked in the postseason before he finally had success and helped the Red Sox win a World Series.
-
Which of Kimbrel’s stats were you going by from last year to lead you to your guess that he would be bad with the Cubs? Or was it based on missing Spring Training and the first half of the season? Nice choke job by the Cubs.

I don't think we can dump all this in Renteria's lap
Moan4Yoan replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It looks like you agree that there was reason to sign one of Brychado. They will both still be younger than any free agent the Sox can sign next offseason. But the Sox still failed miserably in their efforts on both guys and Hahn ended up signing a bunch of bums, minus McCann. So what part of last offseason or any prior Hahn offseason instills any faith in you that next offseason will be good? Has Hahn ever even had a good offseason, free agent-wise? -

Ricky is great at one thing... losing. -
Indeed. Ricky is doing an amazing job.
-
Fathom already called it out. Relying on a closer who primarily throws cutters and doesn’t strike many guys out isn’t the best strategy. He’s no Mariano Rivera.
-
That sucks. I liked him as a RP option. How long do these take to heal?
-
He also threw Rutherford into his post as a guy who should be playing a lot in the majors and soon when he’s not even close to ready, if he ever even will be. Has anyone else on this board noticed this with Greg? He seems to be the ultimate mischievous troll who plays dumb but truly knows what he is doing.
-
He wants that batting title.
