Yep. In a vacuum, extensions for both guys would be amazing. But somehow they will be used as excuses for not signing any top free agent talent this offseason. I can already hear it coming out of Hahn’s mouth... ”We were close with a few of our free agent targets but knew that we would not be able to lock up our own internal talent long-term if we matched what they ultimately received from other teams. Our goal is still the same as it always has been — consistent and long-term winning. We felt if we dug too deep for our free agent targets, our end goal could be compromised.”

Didi Gregorious.

Okay, but you proved my point with the bolded comments above. Enjoying a position and being able to play it aren’t the same thing and players get paid to do what the team expects, including changing positions sometimes. Machado, the $300 million dollar player changed positions. Kris Bryant and Javier Baez have played multiple positions. It’s not the end of the world.
-
Exactly, these are top of the game young athletes. Most of them have played multiple positions throughout their life. All it takes is time and practice for most of these guys to change positions, not including a drastic change to catcher, pitcher, and to a lesser extent SS and CF.
-
I have acknowledged that they have made some nice trades and draft picks. Free agency is an entirely different story, however.
-
I am very positive on our prospects. I am very negative about Hahn and Kenny running the rest of the show, like filling in the holes via free agency. Look at their track record with free agents. McCann is one of the few guys Hahn has actually hit on.
-
Agreed, I also don’t think he will be back either way.
-
Does he have enough pop for 1B/DH though?
-
Maybe Robert will be the first Sox prospect since Gordon Bacon who tears it up right from the start of his call-up, like prospects do for other teams? In that case, we will all be happy with the additional year of control.
-
Who am I trolling? Jace Fry? Is he your brother or something? SoxAce made comment about Fry as well but you didn’t reply to his comment.
-
Not even close. I have Cubs fan friends and have recently joked with them about the Cardinals taking over the division lead. Just because I don’t have much faith in the Sox spending money on the right players or spending enough money overall doesn’t make me a Cubs fan. Are you happy with last offseason acquisitions or the current state of the team Rick Hahn built? Yes, I am excited about the future but I am still afraid that Rick and Kenny are the guys who have to fill the holes via free agency. It’s a scary thought.

Looking at public information located on the Internet? You are doing the same thing right now. I guess Deadspin and many other sites should be shut down, judging by your rage here.

How do people think Boras makes most of his money?!? The mysterious MYSTERY TEAM of course! And who tweets about these mystery teams more than anyone? Heyman.
-
Heyman is Boras’s shill. It’s tough to believe a word he says. Many people think Heyman is on Boras’s payroll.

Agreed, but the Sox aren’t passing on Rendon just because they don’t want to move Moncada’s position again. They aren’t signing Rendon because Moncada plays 3B just fine and Madrigal is almost ready to take over 2B. And also the massive contract it would take to sign Rendon. So the current setup will work without having to spend any more money. Signing Rendon and changing Moncada’s position would obviously make the team better.
-
Agreed, and I think RF would have made the most sense for Moncada with his power, arm and Robert ready to take over CF. Anyone who would have been upset with that lineup or defensive positioning is nuts.
-
No Dick Allen, stop lying. The Sox have a long history of locking up Boras players. ?
-
I didn’t think you could or would. Just like how Baez was impacted last year by playing three positions. Your supporting evidence is non-existent.
-
Give me a list of the Sox big signings of free agent players who use Boras as their agent. Good luck. Pretending to be ignorant to the truth isn’t a good look.
-
Yes, we all know this. Big deal. Draft position money is slotted and no where near the size of free agent contracts.. The open free agent market is an entirely different deal. Keep acting clueless.
-
Man, Javier Baez’s numbers sure suffered last year playing three positions. ?
-
So we are now talking about moving Moncada to another position to sign a player (Rendon) that we all know the Sox aren’t going to sign. Yes, I agree it would be a great move since Rendon is by far and away the best position player available this offseason but we all know deep down that it isn’t going to happen.
-
Okay, go ahead and pretend in your own world that the Sox have no problem signing Boras clients. If I’m moving the goal posts, you must be ignoring the obvious that every poster here would admit.
-
Did they sign him? How much were they willing to offer? I just remember reading articles with Kenny saying Harper was out of the Sox price range even before he ended up signing with the Phillies. So close... I bet the Sox just missed out by a few million. Or perhaps $50 million non-guaranteed incentive based dollars. ??
-
I guess we will see what happens in the offseason. History is on my side. Hope and a boatload of money to spend is on yours. However, the Sox had a boatload of money to spend last offseason and ended up signing mostly junk. You can say I told you so to me once the Sox actually sign a top free agent for more than $68 million. I will still be around.
