Not because of his talent. Because of his agent and the Sox history of not negotiating with said agent via free agency. Try reading sometime.

Renteria goes on pregame anti-analytics rant
Moan4Yoan replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Greg, go back and read the thread. Almost everyone would like a manager that takes analytics into account during their decision making, as well as a manager who “trusts in his gut” from time to time. By Renteria’s angry reaction to the question on analytics, it’s pretty obvious he would rather “trust in his gut” the majority of the time. -
Honestly, of the three top free agent outfielders available, I only see Puig being realistic. I’d rather sign a stop-gap like Dickerson at that point and spend the rest of their money on starting pitching and bullpen.

Enjoy the burst.

If you think AL teams only view Castellanos as a DH you are mistaken. Our very own team is fine with Eloy’s awful defense in LF. The Cubs have played Castellanos mostly in RF. That should tell you all you need to know. Teams wouldn’t hesitate to add Castellanos’s bat in either LF or RF.

And the way the Danks contract turned out likely only bolstered Reinsdorf’s view on handing out long-term contracts for free agent starting pitchers. Does anyone else find it funny that a defense of Reinsdorf being willing to spend money is the guys he DIDN’T end up signing? Like A-Rod before he went to the Rangers, Tanaka before he went to the Yankees, and Machado before he went to the Padres. ? It’s like some guy showing off how he is going to buy some hot sports car in the near future. He may impress some of his buddies by talking about it but he never actually buys the car. Just like the Sox impressing fans by talking about dishing out a $200+ million dollar contract when the highest contract they have given out in history is still only $68 million.

Castellanos is a Boras client and Ozuna will be the top OF free agent available. How often do the Sox land a Boras client after a hot season or land the top free agent player at a position in an offseason? It’s not like caufield is making up stuff here. He just didn’t list his reasoning.

Also, in the real world the Sox won’t be giving Rendon a record-setting deal when they already have Moncada at 3B and Madrigal set to take over 2B soon. If they would be willing to do it, no one would care about asking Moncada to play 3 positions in 3 years. But we all know it’s a pipe dream.

Lauren Watkins, named the Director of Retail Sales for the Barons in April 2017, the same and only season Fry played for the Barons. ? https://www.milb.com/birmingham/news/barons-announce-new-2017-front-office-additionns/c-222409420 Apparently, she outlasted his previous (and current?) girlfriend who broke up their engagement last September 2018. Wow, Jerry Springer style. ?

I did some Google creeping. Apparently, Fry had a baby with a new girl (Lauren Watkins), not the previous girlfriend (Kelsi Blalock) who accused him of cheating on her and giving her an STD last September 2018. http://ironhoney.com/2019/02/28/pregnancy-announcement-at-guaranteed-rate-field-lauren-jace-small-fry/ https://deadspin.com/fiancee-of-white-sox-pitcher-jace-fry-appears-to-nuke-t-1829349852

Still would be better than what we normally get come free agency.
-
I’m warming up to this idea as well. I don’t see the Sox paying Ozuna and Castellanos is a Boras guy. Puig will likely be overpaid as well and is always looking to be a clubhouse clown. Save some money with Dickerson for RF and spend the majority of your money on free agent pitchers and bullpen.

Here’s an article with Hahn’s quotes from two weeks ago: https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/what-we-learned-rick-hahns-appearance-white-sox-talk-podcast Here are the two key quotes I noticed, other than all the excuse making. Hahn apparently still thinks the top guaranteed contract offer isn’t the number one goal of the majority of top free agents, which is laughable and embarrassing at the same time. He is like a lawyer trying to sell his BS to the naive and stupid. "Going forward, I can’t promise you that we’re going to land the top, top free agent in any class. There’s guys who have grown up in certain areas, have gone to colleges in certain areas, they’ve married women from certain areas and they want to play in a certain area. You can’t overcome that with cash, you can’t overcome that with opportunity or strictly this team is prepared to win and you want to come win in this city because it’s going to be damn special when we do. So there are certain things that I can’t get around, or anyone with cash can’t get around, but I do fully intend, in my mind at least, that this organization is going to be continued to be viewed as, rightfully, a destination for premium talent.” Signing a pitcher to a long-term deal “Whatever remaining narratives that the White Sox will never do are going to exist until we friggin’ do it, so I get that. That’s fine. ‘The White Sox are never going to sign a top-of-the-market free agent.’ Well, we didn’t this offseason, so that one’s going to live another 12 months at least. Just like with the other ones, all I know is the focus is to put us in the best position to win multiple championships. The things that line up towards doing that are the things we’re going to pursue. "I don’t expect people to believe that or accept that until it happens, so that’s fine."

Corner outfielder (right fielder to be specific) is the obvious position player I expect them to acquire via free agency or trade. If they truly believe in McCann and Collins they could pass on Grandal. That leave DH left and I doubt they throw a lot of money at that spot.
-
The Sox have yet to sign any player to a $100 million dollar contract. I believe Abreu’s $68 million guaranteed is still the all time high. You are correct that they have so much money available that they shouldn’t balk at signing a free agent to a contract over $100 million this offseason. The bothersome thing is that Hahn and Kenny kept making the excuse that they wouldn’t sign any deals that could impact their ability to lock up their own in-house talent. Even though we know it wouldn’t ruin their ability to still do this, I could definitely see this excuse being continually used going forward.
-
He’s a Boras client as well. I just don’t think the Sox want anything to do with dealing with Boras. Also, they have Collins and Vaughn on the way so I don’t see the Sox spending big money on a DH/LF.
-
I am very surprised myself considering he seemed as angry as many of us were last offseason. Didn’t he say he was moving to Nashville or something? I am hoping for the best and expecting the worse next offseason. I wasted all of my false hope last offseason when I was sure the Sox would land either Machado or Harper. Afterall, to not expect any big signings from this front office would put you on the side of better odds based on Sox history. When is the last time big free agent signing they made? I really don’t consider Adam Dunn that big of a signing so probably Albert Belle?

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
Moan4Yoan replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Im not saying Abreu’s season applies but it does happen. Recently would be Albert Pujols in 2017. He finished the season with 101 RBIs and a putrid line of .241 .286 .386 .672. If you are in the right spot in the lineup most of the season and get enough plate appearance, you can rack up over 100 RBIs even in a poor offensive season. This is the ultimate example of why sabermatricians don’t value RBIs as much as other stats. I mean, that’s a Yolmer type line right there. Awful. -
Between paying Dexter Fowler for two more seasons, Harrison Bader, and Dylan Carlson looking amazing and ready for the majors, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cardinals let Ozuna go.
-
Yep, Castellanos too. Basically, throw out any of the free agent names who use Boras as their agent. Puig and Ozuna don’t use Boras but Ozuna’s price will likely be out of the Sox comfort zone. I could see Puig being a White Sox though due to their past interest.
-
Excellent post. I agree and am more on the negative side when it comes to expecting Reinsdorf to open the purse strings this offseason. I am hoping it happens but I am not expecting it. I expect Hahn to sign some mid-range talent on more “value deals” but not the top talent that many are expecting.

Did Fry impregnate the girl that tweeted about him giving her an STD because he was cheating on her or did he have a kid with another girl?
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if Robert struggles to start his MLB career like Eloy. His strikeout to walk rate isn’t the greatest and he will get pounded with sliders low and away early and often.
-
16 strikeouts and 43 walks in 440 at bats this year. Hopefully the walks continue to increase over some of his contact outs.
