It's that and the realization that we will never have another transcendent talent to root for unless they get lucky on a guy. I know we aren't the only team that has to suffer that but knowing that it's MY team in that boat is so dissatisfying. Even if they develop a transcendent talent they just proved they will never have him beyond his rookie deal. It's the absolutes that revealed themselves through these processes that is most depressing.

Everything I've seen says they've moved on and are focusing on the upcoming season. Everything has been tainted by this offseason. Every positive article about this team just leaves an unnerving feeling that it's pablum designed to enthrall the less initiated. I'm a huge fan of this team and organization but I can't deny that I've been sent to levels I never thought I'd get to as a Sox fan. Much has come to light in regards to ownership and front office operations that just stinks this offseason.

Clearly he tripped and fell on the way.....

Got ya! understood sorry for the misinterpretation! I also credit Ozzie quite a bit for that season as the off season moves made that year just flew in the face of how KW operated. The whole small ball bit and everything, that was all Ozzie, and JR kicked him to the curb.
-
Sorry I'm not gonna sit here and let you try to undermine that 2005 team by saying it was just luck. Wire to wire is more than luck, 11-1 in the playoffs is more than luck. Did they have luck? Yes all good teams do. But to say it was all luck is puerile cub fan BS levels of wrong.

2/23 ST Games, split vs. LAD and OAK

Even better, we are scheduled to play the Padres tomorrow -
If it's true that the Sox leaked their 175 offer, and I'm not saying it is, the only sound reasoning I can come up with is that JR didn't even want to pay that much, had it leaked so someone else jumped in, had Hahn put together a plausible offer that he can then say what he said about it after Manny chose somewhere else, thus leaving the perception that yes, they tried but Manny chose otherwise. I don't think JR gives a crap about winning or not at this point. He likely only OKed the rebuild because he knew he'd have years of bank before he croaked. I'm just getting over being sick but I feel like I need to puke. We are a bush league organization...

Either way this is majorly forked...

The quote was said to be from the Athletic and is said to be a direct quote from Manny. If those two (Jay, Alonso) were smart they'd give their money back and try to leave the Midwest quietly, maybe avoid playing in Chicago with whatever team they may end up on. I won't elaborate.

Philly owner John Middleton was reported not too long ago of being in Las Vegas..... https://www.mlb.com/news/phillies-feeling-better-in-pursuit-of-bryce-harper touche beckham15! haha

Will Yonder and Jay be gone by midseason?
Waylo Kneehigh replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's insane they thought it would work. This isn't oldschool baseball anymore yet this organization, probably because of JR and KW, still operate like our great grandfathers organizations. Money talks, you know the rest -

Well those kids were certified geniuses so.... -

If that's the case then they's be pretty brainless to show their faces on the field. Also Hahn really got played then. -

I agree the kids should be playing. It was an amateur move signing these guys simply to lure machado but now that they are here and events transpired the way they have they still don't deserve ant negativity from the fan base. They did nothing wrong. Boo Khahn instead Id say. -

Alonso and Jay don't deserve any blow-back from this Machado business. They are major league players and are going to do a job. It's not their fault they are tied to Machado and that is the reason Khahn got them. -
Hard pass maybe about 4 or 5 years ago sure

You are missing something here. The issue is systemic, not the organizations, they are simply following procedure as any team does under the current conditions in regards to prospects.

Tongue in cheek. Look it up
-
Agreed, that's why I started a separate thread. I'm not looking to kick a fellow fan while we are down.
-
So nobody here knows what tongue in cheek means? Or playing devils advocate? Just wanna stew in misery instead of viewing something that has already happened a bit differently than raw emotions dictate to you? So be it. The point of the post was for catharsis. Subtly is indicative of intelligence, but it seems most have taken my OP as literal. For those that can't tell the difference: Yes I would love for the Sox to have signed either or both, despite the money. Yes they would be legitimized in the very biased sports media. Yes either of Machado or Harper would make winning far more likely in the future than it does now. All the benefits of having a superstar locked into a position for multiple years is not to be denied. But it's over a done with. No use in crying over spilt milk. The issue we all have now is that it seems more milk will be spilt in the future due to obvious ineptitudes of the front office. But again, that wasn't the point of the post.
-
If you understood it than you'd know there is no right or wrong in the post. It is justifying not wanting that which we wanted before because we can't have it and they are unobtainable. I'm not at all arguing against the benefits of signing one of these guys, simply cherry picking reasoning's why maybe its not so bad we didn't get them. Tongue in cheek, devils advocate so yes a bit heady for the boards at this time. Emotions are raw I get that, I'm not trying to tell anyone how to feel or ignore the obvious benefits to having signed one of those guys. Also saying "Machado could get hit by a bus tomorrow" is in-congruent with the fact that he has a history of bad knees, and knee injuries don't just go away.
-
You are unfamiliar with Aesop's fable, and you didn't bother to read through the post. Had you done either of those you'd realize this isn't a participation award thread, silver lining thread, etc... and the Adam Dunn comment was in reference to Harper, a left handed power bat that strikes out a lot. As the thread title indicated, this post was a matter of perspective and that perspective is that since we can't have him why should we really want him? Mostly tongue in cheek with a bit of devils advocate. Perhaps a bit too heady for the boards at this time.
-
Indeed, I agree with all of that wholeheartedly. This process reiterated some of the long standing issues with the organization and a Machado or Harper would only glaze over those issues. They love to pat themselves on the back but hardly ever own up to their shortcomings. Plus there is the obligatory radio interview about how the fans aren't supporting the team as much as the team needs them to, seemingly suggesting it's the fans fault for the cheapness of the organization. They haven't endeared themselves to anyone and this offseason was the breaking point for a lot of folks, understandably so.
-
They didn't even have one in '05, at least a colloquial superstar. They did it with great pitching (something the organization can hang it's hat on) and solid defense. Right now they need better defense but I think the pitching is right around the corner. Bullpens are fickle so all it takes is one season of solid bullpen to coincide with solid pitching which we may be getting soon, as well as some developed offense and I at least think we are in the conversation, though I'll stop before saying we'll have a seat at the table...........
