The 2020 Rotation - What’s Your Plan?
OneDog847 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yep. Hamels on a two year deal sounds like a fantastic idea. Sox need a dependable veteran lefty in the rotation. Bumgardner and Cole are both pipedreams as JR does not believe in handing out 100 million dollar contracts to pitchers. -
I figure Vaughn will be somewhere in the top 50 as well. The Sox basically need all these guys to pan out as there is very little depth behind them.

Conspiracy? More like idiocy. Dumb and dumber in the Sox FO. -

Why is everyone surprised that Moncada is out there? This is the Crosstown Classic and Hahn wants to show off his shiny toys. Remember this is the same front office that thought Yonder Alonso and Jon Jay meant more to Manny Machado than 50 million dollars. -

45 million already went to Eloy. 35 million or so will go towards Jose's extension. Then you need 100 million for Moncada and 50 million for Giolito. That leaves about 40 million to sign a guy like Hamels or Wacha. -

Thank you. We would all love Gerrit Cole but I don't see the Sox ever giving a pitcher a 150 million dollar plus contract. Hamels makes a ton of sense for the Sox. -

So what? Sox need a reliable lefty in the rotation and Hamels fits that to a T. A 2 year deal for around 40 million is a smart move this offseason. -

The Sox should go after Hamels in the offseason. Would something like 2 years 38 million be enough to get him? -
What about Gio for Kyle Tucker? Who says no?
-
Where is Vaughn if a kid like this is already pitching?
-
Hahn would have been laughed out of the room by Cashman if he proposed this trade a year ago. I think Giolito could turn back into a pumpkin at any minute. Frazier solves your RF problem for the next 5 plus years and Adams is having a good year at AAA and is ready to join the rotation now.
-
Sell high on Gio and flip him for Frazier and a guy like Chance Adams?

What about Cole Hamels or Hyun-Jin Ryu? The Sox need a lefty in the rotation now that Rodon is on the shelf until 2021. Ryu is pitching like a Cy Young candidate this year but it feels like his arm could blow at any time. Hamels has been nothing but consistent since joining the Cubs. The Sox are gonna need a dependable workhorse like him in the rotation next year. -
The 2020 Rotation - What’s Your Plan?

Dude, they were never serious on Harper or Machado. If they were serious they never would have dragged out the contract negotiations with Machado the way they did. JR didn't mess around when gave Albert Belle his big contract back in the day. He knew he wanted Belle and got the deal done early in the offseason. The pussyfooting around with Machado showed an organization that wasn't serious. The Sox will spend some this offseason but it won't be on a guy like Bumgardner, Cole, or Rendon. They will spread the $80 million or so that they do spend on guys like Grandal, Puig, and Alex Wood. -

This team won't be competing for anything till around 2022 if we are relying solely on all the prospects. -
The 2020 Rotation - What’s Your Plan?

It is not safe to assume this at all. The Sox could have piovoted to Harper after Machado signed but there was nothing but crickets from the Sox camp in regards to Harper. KW even went on record after Machado signed saying something like the Sox couldn't afford a 300 million dollar contract because they had to take care of their young guys down the road. How do you expect to sign a guy who wants close to 300 million when you don't even have the $$ to do it? -

The Sox had every opportunity to open up the checkbook this past offseason and got alligator arms when the bill came around. Why would the upcoming offseason be any different? It's a very interesting take indeed. I'm gonna walk into the Range Rover dealership down the street and offer them 30K cash for a 2020 Land Rover. Maybe I'll score some brownie points with the wife for trying. -

The Sox have still never given out a contract larger than 100 million. They have had many opportunities over the years but always seem to come up short for one reason or another. We will most likely be getting guys like Michael Wacha or Alex Wood when we can afford guys like Gerrit Cole or Madison Bumgardner. -

What do you think it would take to get Greinke? He still has two years of control left after this year. -
Well that is why you bring him up and give him a couple of hundred at bats this year to get his feet wet. If he looks completely overmatched at the plate then the Sox may have to pivot and divert some $ towards a catcher in the offseason. Let's hope Mr. Collins holds his own and can become a fixture on the roster for years to come.

Hansen was always a high risk high reward guy. The majority of those kind of picks flame out.

Good news. Freak out over.
