How many wins do you expect out of this road trip?
OneDog847 replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Still a lot of baseball left to be played but Twinkies look good so far. Primed to win the cupcake Central and get slaughtered by one of the big boys from the AL East. -
The Astros rebuild took like 7 years. Next year is only year 4 of the Sox rebuild. Still a long ways to go before the Sox are competing for anything.
-
This is what tanking looks like. The Sox need to know if Lopez is someone that can be penciled into the rotation in future years. He has nothing left to learn in AAA and will be back in 5 days to take the bump again.

I guess the Sox rebuild is screwed then. Twinkies look primed to own the division for next half decade. -

Their rebuild has been a bust so far. They haven't won a single playoff game and have been rebuilding since like 2011. -
The Twins have been in rebuild mode for a lot longer than 5 years. More like last 7-8 years. They had the number 1 farm system in baseball 5 years ago and have a very good farm now. Games like today show how far the Sox still have to go in their rebuild. The Sox are still a good 3-4 years away from being a legit contender.

The Sox could have taken a chance last year with a high school kid like Kelenic, Gorman, or Liberatore, but played it safe with Madrigal. Last year was the time to roll the dice and go high upside with a high schooler. Vaughn has put up elite numbers at the plate in college. Kris Bryant and Big Hurt type numbers. Abrams is lightning fast and is a good athlete. The jury is still out on whether or not he is a good baseball player.

Shouldn't Collins be up soon? The guy is now 24 with over 1300 at bats in the Minors.
-
Give me Palka or Matt Skole ASAP. Alonso is only here because of money and Rick Hahn's pride. Those aren't valid reasons for retaining a useless player.
-
Yep. Let's hope Moncada becomes a perennial 30/30 guy.
-
Both those dudes owe Manny a monthly steak dinner at Gibson's for the rest of Mr. Machado's life.
-
Some real elite company there lol
-
I suspect something went down during the Machado negotiations between Jay and the White Sox. Hopefully they just DFA him in a couple months.
-
There you go Charlie! Let's hope the plan is to keep Jay on the IL all year so that he doesn't steal at bats from the youngsters.
-
Maybe that will decrease his price tag a couple million in the offseason lol.
-
I'm saying he would take a mulligan on every single #1 and #2 pick that he has selected since 2015!. That is not just hindsight talking, that is some bad drafting. Just looking within the AL Central, I'm sure that Detroit would keep Casey Mize and Matt Manning, Minnesota is happy with Royce Lewis and Alex Kiriflllof (picked after Burger), and KC would keep Singer and MJ Melendez. The Sox would redo all their picks in a heartbeat if they could.
-
John Danks comes to mind.
-
I agree. There is a very good chance that Madrigal never makes it past AA.
-
Hostetler is in over his head. He would take a mulligan if offered on every single one of his round 1 & 2 draft picks since he took over. The guy is running the Sox farm into the ground. It is time for some new blood in the draft room.

If the Sox spend at all, it is pretty apparent that the plan is to sign a bunch of Laroche/Melky/Robertson type guys to fill in the gaps. JR and company have had multiple opportunities to hand out 100 million dollar plus contracts over the past decade and they fall short every single time. No dudes like Cole, Rendon, or Bumgardner are coming to the South Side any time soon. We will have to settle for dudes like Michael Wacha, Yasiel Puig, and Jonathan Schoop.
-
Yep. It will be a pretty epic bamboozle by JR and company if they don't open up the wallet significantly over the next few offseasons. Hahn and Williams are on record saying that they had this past offseason circled on their calendar since the Sale trade and yet nothing big happened. There is no guarantee that the "money will be spent". Talk is cheap.
-
For all we know this might be the plan. JR owes the fans nothing and responsible only to his other shareholders. The plan might be to just keep payroll extremely low under the guise of rebuilding. Ain't much we can do if that happens except b**** about it on a message board.

It's getting close to see what this kid has to offer at the MLB level. The Sox can't hide him down in the minors forever. He now has over 1300 at bats in the minors. I would give him another month or so down in Charlotte to shake off the cobwebs from the concussion and bring him up around July 1.
-
What happens if Adley goes 1 and Vaughn goes second?
-
What happens with Colome over the next few months should indicate the Sox plans for 2020. Trading him likely means another quiet offseason and punting 2020. Keeping him indicates that they plan to compete. They are going to have to spend a couple hundred million dollars in FA if they plan to compete in 2020 though.
