Dude relax. This is what tanking looks like.
-
Yep. Anyone who thinks this team can be competitive next year without spending 500 million plus in FA needs to get their head examined. 75 percent of the MLB roster is AAAA floatsam and jetsam. 2020 gonna be another tank year.
-
Yes sir. The Sox have already played the game of signing a bunch of Tier B free agents in one offseason and hoping they all hit. We already know how that ended. The best course of action is to add an elite position player and an elite TOR arm via FA/trade and fill in the rest of the roster with cheap homegrown talent. However, the Sox FO showed us this last offseason that they are unwilling to put their $ where their mouth is. Like it or not, 2020 will likely be another tank/developmental year. The Sox still need to figure out what they have with a bunch of the young kids.
-
Do they?
-
No offense, but adding Zach Wheeler, Grandal, and Ozuna is not enough to get this team over the hump next year. A rotation led by Zach Wheeler and a bunch of kids isn't enough. Also, adding those 3 to long-term contracts will likely cost the Sox close to 200 million dollars total. I could see the Sox signing one of those guys but no way in hell will they sign all 3.
-
Yep. Bad shoulder and bad elbow/arm equals massive hill to climb.
-
I just don't see anyway this team can compete next year without signing a bunch of mid tier free agents ala Laroche/Robertson/Melky and hoping that they all hit. We've seen that movie before already and the ending sucked.I would totally be in favor of signing a guy like Cole, Rendon, or JD Martinez but I have no confidence that JR is ever gonna pony up a 100 million dollar plus contract. 2020 will be another development year because the rebuild is being built from within and our top prospects still need more seasoning.
-
Unless JR decides to open up the checkbook next year is likely another tank year.
-
2020 is likely just another tank year. I don't think the Sox should sign any FA pitchers if they miss out on Cole. The Sox can roll with a rotation of Kopech/Cease/Lopez/Giolito/ Banuelos/Lambert/Flores for 2020. See what you have with these guys and sign somebody after 2020 if needed.

Rodon's wife made comments around the time Nola signed his extension with the Phils if my memory serves. Something along the lines that Carlos would never settle for less than what he thinks he is worth and is therefore not likely to sign an extension before he hits FA. His camp thought they had a 75 million dollar plus contract coming their way after 2021. Dude will be lucky to still be in MLB in 2021 if Tommy John is in his future.

The Twins rebuild began in 2012. That is 7 years with no playoff victories.
-
This year doesn't matter and they need another veteran to potentially eat innings. Wouldn't surprise in the least if they bring back big game James Shields.
-
Much easier said than done. Also, isn't this something that probably should have been done before the Sox decided to rebuild?
-
What other option is there besides tanking if JR isn't willing to open up the checkbook? The tanking is far from over it appears.
-
Sad but not entirely unpredictable. Rodon is the Sox version of Mark Prior. Ain't no guarantees in a rebuild..
-
Yep. Something looked really amiss with him his last two starts. We will be getting a tweet saying he has a scheduled appointment with Dr. James Andrews very soon I'm afraid.
-
The guy has only pitched 50 innings above A ball so far. I just don't see the reason to rush him in a tank year. Let him develop this year in the minors and bring him up next year. The Sox ain't competing this year or next year anyways. 2020 should be Jimmy's time to shine.
-
Let him pitch in Charlotte and see how he handles the mlb ball. What is the rush to bring him up in a tank season? There is a very real chance he gets absolutely destroyed in the Show and never recovers from it.
-
Jimmy Lambert is not ready dude. The guy hasn't even thrown a pitch in AAA yet. When is the last time the Sox promoted a pitcher to the bigs straight from AA?
-
Good. No need to rush prospects in a tank year because Rodon can't stay healthy. Let Covey get another chance and then cycle through guys like Roach, Stephens, and Guerrero until Cease is ready.
-
I get what you are saying but why waste those bullets in a lost season?
-
Good for you man. The Sox aren't even trying to compete this year though. They need another top 3 pick a lot more than they need 72 victories.
-
I'm sure the Sox had a plan for Cease at the beginning of the year. They want him to make a certain number of starts in Charlotte and build up his stamina. The kid hasn't exactly proven himself to be a workhorse. Rodon's injury should have no bearing on Cease's development. 2019 is a tank year. Throw Jose Guerrero or Jordan Stephens out there for now and take your beating like a man.
-
Bad idea. The Sox should just keep Cease on his normal timeline. No need to rush him in a tank year. They might need to sign a guy off the street since everyone at Charlotte is utter garbage except Cease. Maybe bring back big game James?
-
Is this comment serious? The only thing the Sox are playing for this year and likely next year as well is a top 5 draft pick.
