Who is your top 2019-20 free agent target
OneDog847 replied to JUSTgottaBELIEVE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That 45 Million should have went to Machado as guaranteed money. What this team really needs is three or four guys who are 5+ WAR players. We currently have zero. -
Has Hostetler ever taken a HS player with a round 1-3 pick? It seems pretty much a given that the Sox are going with best college player available at #3 this June.

The thing is the Sox are nowhere near ready to compete. Those guys make no sense on a tanking team. Give the playing time to the kids. -

Please name one contract over 100 million that the Sox have handed out while JR has been owner. The Sox made someone an offer they knew he wouldn't accept. I can walk into my local Land Rover dealer and offer them 50K for a brand new Range Rover all I want. I will still be driving home in my Honda when all is said and done. -

Yep. A $90 million to 100 million payroll is much better for JR and companies bottom line. They just chose not to add Bryce Harper or Manny Machado to an already low payroll. I don't think they have any intention of spending any big money any time soon. -

Goldschmidt is a prime guy to take an extension. The FA market has not been kind to over 30 players the last few years. He will also be looking for 100 million plus on a four or five year deal most likely which means he will be too expensive for the Sox -

I'm not advocating signing a guy like Carpenter. Just saying that he is the type of player the Sox will target and can afford. Goldschmidt is very very likely to sign an extension with St Louis at some point this year. He is also an NL only guy and there is always risk he comes to the AL and his numbers fall off a cliff. -

Why are you giving up on Sheets? He already has a high OBP and just needs to develop some power. Seeing him on the South Side sometime in 2020 is not unrealistic. Basabe should also be ready to go on the South Side in 2020. -

JR has still never handed out a contract over 100 million dollars and likely never will. The Machado saga was one big dog and pony show and JR finished second on purpose. There was a reason he inserted himself into the contract negotiations. JDM, Goldschmidt, and Bumgarner are all gonna be looking for 100 million plus so they can be crossed off the list. Guys like Puig, Ozuna, Matt Carpenter, Alex Wood, and Rick Porcello will be the ones the Sox go after. -

2019 is another tank year for sure. Just take a look at the roster. Adam Engel is the starting center fielder and the back end of your rotation is guys like Giolito, Covey, and Banuelos. 100 losses is a very real possibility again this year. Things should start getting better in 2020 with full or half seasons from Cease, Kopech, Eloy, Basabe, Collins, Adolfo, Dunning, Burdi, Sheets, Madrigal, etc. Let the young kids play and take your lumps. Letting the young kids develop should be the theme for the next two seasons. Wins and losses won't really matter yet. After 2020 you can start to add free agents in areas of need. Again, the only caveat would be adding a TOR starter this Winter but I don't suspect the Sox will be serious players for any of those guys. -
Yep. The Sixers were a bottom barrel team for like 5 years as a part of their "process". The Astros lost 100 plus games three seasons in a row! The Sox still have a few tank seasons left before this rebuild starts moving forward with any momentum. 2019 and 2020 should be all about letting the young kids develop and getting top 5 draft picks.

I don't think the Sox will be ready to add any impact free agents this offseason. 2020 will most likely be another tank/developmental year. They will want to see what they have with guys like Basabe, Madrigal, Adolfo, Collins, Zavala, Cease, Kopech, Dunning, Lambert, etc. They will most likely go after FA following the 2020 season. The only caveat to this is adding a top of the rotation starter like Sale or Cole. I don't see the Sox being serious bidders for either but a team can never have too much pitching. -
Any word on Robert's thumb? I thought he was supposed to be back around Thursday?

Sad but true. Dude has been a loyal soldier and JR will reward him for it. A three year extension in the low 50s is all but guaranteed for Jose. -
Personal opinions on Sox rebuild pieces.

The rebuild hasn't failed. It is just currently stuck in the mud. It's pretty clear that Hahn and company aren't going to be able to turn things around as quickly as Theo or Jeff Luhnow did, however. This looking more and more like a 6-7 year rebuild. -

Rodon came up in 2015 and has only put up a little more than 5 WAR so far in his career. He is a lot closer to a back end guy than top of rotation option. The tanking isn't going to end this year. The Sox as currently constructed look like a team that will flirt with 100 losses again. 2020 should be a little better but that is assuming all the youngsters like Kopech, Cease, Collins, Basabe have a good rookie season. The tank is far from over unfortunately. -
U really think Robert and Madrigal will be in Charlotte at some point this year? I see both Madrigal and Robert starting the year in Winston-Salem and finishing in Birmingham if everything goes according to plan.

3/5 - Home vs. Pads (Giolito) / Away vs. Cleveland (Cease!!!)

Robert is as fragile as a China doll. It will be a minor miracle if he even starts 80 games this year. -
Good to hear. Let's hope he can make it up to the Show sometime in 2019!

Welcome Mr. 2001. Moncada is a lock for either third or second base for the next 5 years. He may not turn into a 6+ WAR stud but he is going to be playing everyday for the Sox. They invested way too much for him to ever cut bait. Anderson is a lock for shortstop until at least 2023 when his club options start to kick in. The Sox invested 25 million in this kid so he ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Eloy should also be a lock for left field for the forseeable future. Rodon should be a lock for the rotation for the next 3 years, although is looking more and more like a back end type of guy. That is about it, however. This team is still in the talent acquisition phase of the rebuild. Another 2 or 3 years of tanking is the most likely course of action. -
What's the deal with Burdi? His TJ surgery was like 20 months ago. He is even going to ready to go for Charlotte on their opening day?
-
The highlight of Courtney Hawkin's career was the standing backflip that he did live during the Draft show. Dude never even made it out of AA. Colossal bust. I do not see the Sox taking Witt or Abrams if Adley and Vaughn go 1.1 and 1.2. They will most likely just pivot to the next best college player available.
-
That is true. Hostetler just seems so risk adverse though. I just don't see him ever taking a high schooler with a top 5 pick. I wonder what he would have done if Jo Adell had not been taken immediately before Burger in 17.
-
The Sox will take Vaughn for sure if he is there at #3. He fits their draft profile philosophy under Hostetler perfectly. The Sox will also want the pick this year to be someone they can get to the big leagues as soon as possible. The rebuild clock is ticking and I don't see the Sox taking a high school kid that is gonna need three years of development time in the minors.

Congrats dude. You are the only person on earth that is not employed by the White Sox who thinks that the White Sox have the best collection of under 25 talent in baseball.
