KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap
OneDog847 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd rather have neither. This is like asking someone if they would rather have the shit sandwich or the piss soup. -
Go home? Dude is 24 years old and is going to be starting the year at High A.

Why you should not want Reinsdorf to sell the SOX
OneDog847 replied to 59th street's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Man, if it was announced that JR sold the Sox I would drive to NW Indiana and buy enough fireworks to celebrate like it was 2005 all over again. Something is rotten at 35th and Shields and the smell is coming from the owners suite. -

Perfectly describes Yoan Moncada so far as well. -

That's what I don't get about this. KW is a competitor. How the f%ck is he content with simply having a seat at the table? Dude sounds like a freaking Theranos or Enron executive. No One is buying the BS he is selling any longer. -

I just went and tallied up how many Sox games I've been to since 2000. Over 400 for this sucker. I'm in for one this year. Anger is gonna turn into apathy for many of us. -

Three simple words Mr Williams, Perception is reality!!!! -
They were never in the Harper sweepstakes.

Yep. It is pretty much a lock that Abreu gets an extension at some point this year. Kenny hinted strongly at this with his comments about paying our own guys down the line in the immediate aftermath of the Machado debacle. 3 years in the low 50s is my prediction.
-
Yep. 2019 is another tank year anyway. Let him get 25 to 30 starts and evaluate again at the end of the year. If he is terrible again like last year he will help the Sox lose games and get another top 3 pick. If he takes a step forward the Sox may have a legit #5 starter to work with or someone to sell high on and trade next offseason.

Dane Dunning: No TJS just yet, rest and monitor
OneDog847 replied to YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
It was Victor Robles that was deemed untouchable and most likely why the Sale talks with the Nats fell apart. -
I remember reading the write ups about this kid when he was traded for Eaton. Sox yes men like Garfien and Merkin were tweeting about an "electric fastball that touches the high 90s coupled with a devastating curve-ball" The kid then gets to the Sox and can barely hit 95 on the radar gun with the majority of his fastballs sitting around 92-93. What the heck happened?

Didn't this guy get the memo about the Dodgers and the big bad luxury tax? They can't sign Harper because they told their investors months ago that they would stay under the tax.

He was available. He was only like 17 at the time of the Eaton trade with Harper, Robles, Werth all ahead of him on the depth chart. The Sox obviously wanted pitching from the Nats that was very close to MLB ready. -

Juan Soto was there for the taking in the Eaton trade too. The Nats wouldn't budge on Robles if I remember correctly but the Sox seemed fixated on getting pitching from the Nats. Giolito was rumored as one of the main centerpieces in the Sale trade talks with Washington that fell apart. All water under the bridge now I suppose, but the what ifs are really starting to pile high with Mr. Hahn and company. -
Doesn't he have a reported shoulder issue? Sox will probably hold him out until June again and he will make 10 starts at High A. He is a non-prospect at this point in time.
-
Have we gotten any official word on why the Sox are out on Harper? Is it simply because Harper's price tag is too high?
-
Padres can't sign him cause they are loaded with debt from the renovations at Petco Giants can't sign him cause they have a bunch of bloated contracts on their roster and hitting at their park is a nightmare Dodgers can't sign him because they will go over the luxury tax and Manfred will immediately lock the gates to Dodger Stadium if they do that. I guess that leaves the Anaheim Angels as the winner. Harper and Trout in the same outfield would be wild.
-
Ain't you the same guy that said Machado to San Diego didn't make any sense cause San Diego was deep in debt paying down renovations for Petco? I don't think the Dodgers give a rats ass about all this luxury tax nonsense.
-
Dude, it is February 27th.
-
How long ago did they say that? Again, circumstances change. Maybe they thought Harper was gonna cost 450 Million. They now see offers in the low 300s and are ready to strike.
-
Didn't people say that the Padres could never afford Machado due to debt obligations from renovating Petco? It's time to stop assuming that we know the financial picture of all these teams. No one on this board knows jack about the Cubs or Dodgers internal cash flow restrictions. Circumstances change and the Dodgers are hungry for a WS. Maybe they are about to dump a bunch of payroll via trade with a team like the Sox?
-
Maybe the Dodgers don't give a sh$T about the CBA penalty? Didn't they just get close to a billion dollars not too long ago from their TV deal? U2 was still making good records the last time the Dodgers won a World Series. World Series flags fly forever.
-
Bad move. Didn't work out too well when the Sox tried to call Lozano's bluff.
-
Yep. They cannot afford Harper and have absolutely no intention of signing him and probably never did.
