Would need to work on getting a bulldog attitude. Needs to go into attack mode. One or two innings of being mad at the guys trying to get hits off him.
If you are referring to the money quoted...I thought that was obvious. My comment was intended to say a contract for Q as depth wouldn't surprise me. One year with an option is probably more realistic, however.
I hope LaRussa is the HOF manager his past accomplishments say he is. Good lineup construction coupled with good on-field decisions. Good management of the pitching staff. Why would anyone want the Sox to fail? Not much of a fan I think.
Jerry has been a baseball fan longer than most of us and is smart enough to become a billionaire. Maybe he isn't as dumb as some on this board would have us believe.?
You have 14 players in the untouchable or unmovable categories. I agree with your assessments. I was a big believer in the "no player is untouchable" philosophy...but this team is something special.
The Bauer/Springer type free agents always scare the bejeebers out of me. Free-agency works really well to fill holes with competent performers without giving up players. I think Joc for RF and Q or Tanaka for the rotation are good examples of guys who would improve our team while not being huge risk pieces. Hendricks and Colome would also fit the bill as low-risk additions for the pen. If a Bauer or Springer pulls a Dunn / Encarnacion / LaRoach and the team gets seriously set back. It is written in the stars that we need to develop our own stars and fill in around them with sensible trades and FA acquisitions IMO.
The best way to improve your odds of a WS ring is to be in the playoffs year after year. The best team doesn't always win the WS but you can't win if you don't make the playoffs.
