  1. 80 million additional still doesn't put us in the top third of MLB payrolls. I'm not complaining...just saying the money should be there to accomplish what is needed. Wheeler and Grandal are my primary wish list candidates. Both fit exactly what we need for obvious reasons.
  2. If Leury Garcia or Adam Eaton played for someone else we would probably be talking about them as possible RF candidates.
  3. In time that might be Madrigal. Doesn't hit left handed but takes pitches for the man on base...hits behind the runner...doesn't strike out...can hit and run...can bunt. Seems like a right handed Nellie Fox.
  4. His age is why he might be available for modest money and short term contract. Most of us willing to consider him like giving our young guys a chance to grow into a role. Lots of ways to go in RF. This is only one of them. None of us really have a clue what RH has for a working budget. In order to get the quality pitching we need I'm willing to cut corners in RF if necessary. I want Grandal or Martinez at DH and decent starters so RF is where I'm willing to be thrifty.
  5. Great job of explaining how we old guys think.
  6. I had Wheeler + Grandal + Abreu + Gardner + Bumgarner and a 2020 payroll $130.3
  7. This spread sheet is addictive. Thanks bmags for a job well done.
  8. Agreed! Striking hard on the second tier (Wheeler/Ryu/Bumm) is probably the smart thing to do. Also, frees up money for the DH acquisitions like Grandal or Martinez and RF candidates like Ozuna, Casellanos or whomever. The #1 & #2 starters are probably here with Gio and Kopech or perhaps Cease competing for those roles.
  9. A fast signing of Wheeler would make this whole offseason go down much easier. Definitely would take the heat off some of the long drawn out signings that are a Boras trademark.
  10. The idea of Gardner continues to grow on me.
  11. Assuming above average RF and DH,,,I find it interesting how low in the batting order most of us put the reigning AL batting champ.
  12. We can assume a RF and DH of good quality. Those needs are obvious to everyone including RH. Of course Robert and Madrigal can struggle for a bit but I doubt any of us think they will anything other than very good. Good lineups make it easier on everyone since nobody feels they have to do it all themselves. My one and only concern is finding the two quality starters. Our other need of a reliever or two shouldn't be hard to find. The big question is who are the starters? Cole and Strasburg would obviously leave less money available for those DH and RF acquisitions.
  13. Our lineup is strong 1 thru 9. Wherever he bats there will frequently be people on. Nice problems making out this lineup.
  14. I think it hinges on if the Sox are targeting Grandal. If no Grandal...JDM makes a ton of sense.
  15. Stiever has more value than to be traded for one year of Joc. Trade Sanchez...he has one year of overpriced control just like Joc.
  16. I think his arm might be a little below par for a right fielder but gets to more balls than the typical right fielder.
  17. I agree. Spend the money where you have the need. Get a right fielder. Gardner is checking a lot of boxes IMO.
  18. #1…#2 or #9 depending on managers style.
  19. Announced today that Nick Madrigal won minor league GG. Not long now.
  20. My choice would be Pederson if the cost is modest...otherwise Gardner is fine.
