  1. Signing an extension would expedite the process.
  2. We are not as good as some in this phase of the game...I'm sure it's not because of money. This area's people and equipment cost is nickels & dimes compared to player cost. Clubs have arrived to believe in analytics at different paces.
  3. I think Alonso put a lot of pressure on himself because people perceive he was hired to lure his brother in law. He was a major league hitter before he got here and I won't be surprised if he hits again when he leaves. I would like to see RR bat him 6 or 7 and play1 st. base half the time. When he first got here...I liked his approach at the plate. Now he seems to swing away to get it over with. I think it's 50-50 we trade Abreu. We might be needing Alonso until reinforcements arrive.
  4. You only need to have one team willing to overpay to solve their late inning relief problem. The trades of Sale, Q & Eaton were all overpays because of perceived needs of the various teams we sold to. In the case of Sale and Q the media constantly said the Sox are asking to much. When Rick actually has something to sell he does quite well.
  5. Lost in the excitement of Giolito tossing a gem...the 4 outs needed to end the game came quite painlessly. Bummer and Colome made short work with four up and four down. Nice when the bullpen doesn't make you squirm.
  6. I love his mound presence. He's got that I've got your number look.
  7. I understand you can get a W without pitching very well. You can also get a L while being really good. I'll never believe you can be 9-1 with anything short of outstanding pitching. I guess I'm old fashioned. Oh well.
  8. Jay was always a useful player in the way L. Garcia is useful. Decent all around player and doesn't cost a ton. Good teammate by all accounts. He just doesn't belong getting at-bats instead of Tilson or Cordell or anyone who might have a roll on our contending roster. Some careers just kind of drift away without anyone being at fault.
  9. IMO they could get Hayward for what we pay Colome.
  10. I understand your point about Alonso being in the game. My beef with RR is lineup construction and the miserable job with handling the bullpen. I really do wonder what bench coach & Coop are doing in this regard. Just kind of amateurish.
  11. I always liked Avi accept his time on the DL. With Avi you probably get more offense and with Hayward a lot more defense. Hayward is 29 year old which doesn't make him old. Excellent defense and has rediscovered some semblance of what he once was offensively. I was suggesting a Cubs deal probably could fit both teams if Hayward could be had at discount. Dye was available to us for similar circumstances when slow recovering from an injury while with Oakland. Dye and Hayward always reminded me a bit of each other. A pitcher like Colome would be attractive to our friends on the Northside.
  12. This is a rare moment...I agree with everything you said.
  13. With all due respect...Jerry Reinsdorf is worth over 1.5 Billion. Do you really think he made that amount of money by being a weak leader. I don't like all the results but to call guys like Reinsdorf lacking the guts to make decisions just isn't reasonable.
  14. We need decent arms and some teams have an abundance of outfielders who might look good in right field. We no longer need every deal to be for prospects.
  15. Why is it so hard to find a "good" bullpen pitcher when you need one?
  16. Hayward at a discount might be available for our right field opening.
  17. Good summation of where we are and what is ahead. Ricky has just recently become a large concern. Just like the Cubs...he's good with getting from point A to B but might not be the guy to take us to the promise land.
  18. The Abreu and Colome decisions will be interesting to follow. Both players could be part of the rebuilt contender. Also, both players qualify as our biggest available trade chips. I would imagine other teams will make these decisions for us. No reason to deal either player just to be making a deal. However, now is probably the time of greatest return as apposed to the off season. I am 50-50 on what way I want it to go but if we trade... I want something in the form of major league ready players. Time to start pulling that contender together at the major league level this off season.
  19. Yeah...we shouldn't use any of that triple crown crap to judge players.
