I didn't like the long drawn out saga either. We do it to ourselves when we speculate for weeks. FO only said they felt good about their chances. We let that become some kind of already done deal. I especially didn't like some FA's slipping past us while we pursued them.
Absolutely no one including Machado or Harper come with guarantees. TJ is no longer a career killer in fact many come back better than ever. I feel confident in the guys we are all counting on. I do think 2020 will probably be getting all of the prospect up and learning to work together along with some rehab time for Kopech. I still expect us to compete next year. Robert, Madrigal, Cease and Kopech are huge addition along with more maturity for Eloy and Madrigal. I'm liking the addition of McCann and perhaps Collins as well.
Well I would say Hawk Harrelson & Kenney Williams would both beat him to that title. I don't know if he would or would not be offered other GM jobs. You don't either.
Abreau, Madrigal, Sale, Q, Moncada, Eloy, McCann, Kopech, Cease, Bummer, Giolito, Marshall, Anderson, Tilson and others that you already have discussed many times.
I only use his degree and experience to say he is not a dumb bunny. He speaks with other baseball people on an hourly basis. I know I don't have his knowledge of players of the other 29 teams and their availability. Sincerely doubt any member of this forum has his overall knowledge of contracts and what goes into getting the guy you are seeking. In short...I sometime get frustrated with various Sox related moves but I damn sure know I couldn't do his job. I don't know who the best GM in baseball is... but pretty sure he isn't on this forum.
I want no part of trading Madrigal. He's going to be a good one. Moncada is a better third baseman than he was ever going to be a second baseman. If I was going to get one of Machado or Harper...Harper would have been my choice.
Leaning 51-49 in favor of a 2 or 3 year extension for Jose if the price is reasonable. I certainly would not give him away with anything other than a fair offer. Same exact feeling I have concerning Colome.
He fits the bill for me. I know some want a lefty. That might be best but I'll settle for best all around player. I want a good defender because you can't have two Eloy's in your outfield.
I sometimes wonder if we've given Cordell enough of a chance. He actually is a 5 tool player but none of the tools are elite. He also has no glaring weakness that stands out under such limited play.
I suspect that Estate Law will drive JR's decision concerning selling the team. He's a tax attorney and I'm sure has had his departure worked out years in advance.
