  1. I'd keep him before I trade him for Happ. Happ really is a dime a dozen type of player. No thanks.
  2. Hope Gio sets it on cruise control today.
  3. Moncada is playing a really good third base and 2nd is still being held down by Yolmer until the Madrigal arrival. We still have those saved million to spend on needs which will most likely be TOR starter and depth. For my money we dodged a bullet. Ten year contracts almost surely will bite you in the ass every time.
  4. We all had HOPE that the team would show improvement while we wait on the reinforcements from Cease, Madrigal, Roberts, Kopech, Rodon, Dunning, etc.. Those improvements came in the improved play of Moncada, Anderson, Tilson, Gio, Abreu & Garcia and the additions of McCann, Jimenez and Colome. Others like Bummer & Marshall have also helped. Now I HOPE we catch lightening in a bottle and find a way to improve the starting pitching. Cease & Keuchel seem the easiest place to find reinforcements. If there are others we should be considering I am very open to hear about them. Having HOPE is far more fun than is it's just HOPELESS. The negative vibe from some posters is taking the easy way out. Saying "it won't work" is taking the easy way out IMO.
  5. What he wants and what he gets aren't always the same. If I were Rick I wouldn't overpay for this or any other FA. Boras has worn out his welcome and hasn't been the best agent for many of his clients lately.
  6. Not everyone wants to play for the Yankees. Some people like to be the big deal in a little town and some people like to be just one of the guys in a big town. Depends on the guys.
  7. A three year extension for 5 million per would please me greatly.
  8. I see nothing strange about thinking a player has X value to your organization and passing on it when the bidding surpassing that. When you say rare opportunity to sign star players...I see nothing rare about being able to overpay a player...happens every year. Actually, I guess I'm not all aboard for most contracts that exceed 5 years and I would prefer those go to my in house stars in the form of extensions. Also, can you imagine being the star of a team and then your boss brings in this new guy...pays the new guy three times what you make and signs him up for 4 times your guaranteed years. I bet you would think that sucks. Lastly, like many others, if I have an extra 30 mil per year that I would like to spend...I prefer hedging my bets with 2 or3 players rather than 1. Now if that player is Trout I will make an exception. Machado & Harper are not Trout.
  9. Any stat that tells me McCann isn't a good catcher...isn't much of a stat IMO. Stat's should more often than not confirm what you already know. As fans who watch the game every day we do have an eye test that I consider to be quite accurate. I don't really need to know how fast a ball was hit or the trajectory as it left the yard, etc. If a guy hits 35 HR's that is the only meaningful stat I care about...not how may feet they travelled in total. Stats to me are interesting but give me batting ave, rbi's and HR's.
  10. Abreu & Colome have very good value to a contender. If we keep them the FO thinks we are a contender. Seems simple enough.
  11. Why not? He needs a place to show he still has it. We're a place that needs a guy who is showing he still has it. Free agents haven't had the demand as in the past. This also has some marketing upside for the Sox.
  12. I don't disagree as concerning trades. That's why by preference is Keuchel & Cease. Cost nothing in prospects and if it works you advance the rebuild. Keuchel is said to favor a 1 year deal to show his wears. Since we're not a hot contender to take it all... he is not going to get some fabulous offer from us. He would get a chance to pitch and maybe that will be enough. Lot's of recent FA's haven't cashed in like they had hoped.
  13. I could probably name a few more but the point is he on occasion fools us. If you prefer to think he won't I frankly don't care.
  14. Madrigal is going to make you sorry you said that. Book it.
  15. As Head 22 would say...a very unsatisfying day!
  16. Yeah...but who could have seen that coming.
  17. Talk about bring in a gas can...here comes Herrera. Hold our collective breath.
  18. And several primo scoring opportunities.
  19. Why bring in Fry in a two run game. He's been a gas can.
  20. Maybe today...this isn't over. Cleveland just ain't that good.
  21. Francona over manages for my taste but he sure doesn't get beat by pitchers losing it or staying in the game to long.
