  1. There is nothing "dumb" about fans wanting to see good baseball and caring about winning games. When you explain how other people only think about the little "micro" unimportant things...makes you sound like a pompous A**.
  2. At this stage of rebuild there is no reason to not win every game you can. If losing is so desirable than put Alonso in centerfield. Ricky taught Lopez nothing by letting him get shelled and lose the W. Also, as others have pointed out...2 1/2 games out of the wild card isn't totally out of it. Probably out of it-Yes - but not out of it.
  3. I would love to know who it was it that first said to RH that the Sox should take a look at Alonso. Was it KW, some scout or maybe RH himself? That person should be found and never let into a talent meeting again. On the other hand...find who first suggested McCann and promote him and never hold a closed door meeting about possible acquisitions without having him in the room.
  4. Rebuilding shouldn't mean to not manage well. Losing isn't a necessity during the rebuild just the probability.
  5. It's odd that a smart baseball man like Ricky doesn't seem to feel it when a pitcher is losing it or a hitter needs to sit for a few days. Most of us can see those things and start buzzing on this forum before the roof caves in. None of us have Ricky's 40 years in the game and yet virtually all of us are mystified by some of his decision making. Ricky very obviously is not dumb and yet continues to out think him self. He doesn't even need to come up with anything clever. He has bench coaches and a pitching coach to suggest the smart thing to do. I do think he manages the clubhouse side of things very well...the game side not so much.
  6. It doesn't matter if you spread the money among a few players or one...you've got to pick the right people. I personally favor the several people approach but that doesn't mean I favored the Alonso/Jay choices. Most of us would take a small army of McCann's.
  7. We could try a Spahn & Sain and pray for rain but we would have to find a Sain.
  8. Don't gloat. No one likes a bragger.
  9. Hard to understand why Ricky can't sit him for a day or two. His contract even makes it desirable. Lots of players get to sit and try to figure it out from a view on the bench.
  10. Only 3 games back of .500 and it's almost June. 3 games over .500 would be a good target for the end of June.
  11. You could be blind and see he had nothing left.
  12. If they do it means RH is all in for next year.
  13. I was going to use the Chapman comparison as well. Also, trades won't necessarily be prospects. Many teams have major league guys who are blocked. I believe that had some bearing on the Torres trade.
  14. Leury sure looked good in this game. He's growing on me.
  15. Nothing to be ashamed of to be an optimist.
  16. I was having that same thought. Hard to believe any of us couldn't manage a game and a pen better than this.
  17. It would be interesting if the FO brought in a Joe Gerardi. See how the team would react to tough love.
  18. In general I don't hate Ricky like some do. But once or twice a week he does something really hard to take. When a manager seemingly doesn't see the obvious it's not easy to remain neutral.
  19. Both the balls off of Marshall were kilt.
  20. Yeah. That was a nice surprise.
