  1. As long as this is the rule.... I believe a competent manager should challenge. Its not up to the competition to protect you from your own silly mistakes. I don't like this rule but until it's changed you need to pay attention to what is going on around you. Major leaguers making these mistakes is rather embarrassing.
  2. I have been surprised by the harsh critique of Eloy's defense. Before 1973 when the DH came into being, the left fielder on every team was the worst defensive player. Many of those players made every catch an adventure. I was expecting Eloy to be one of those guys. I've been pleasantly surprised that he was as good a he's been. He's not going to make newsreel plays, but for the most part he has played adequately. We want every player to play All Star defense but just about all teams who prioritize offense will bury those hitters at DH, 1st. base & LF.
  3. Baseball is experimenting with many things as noted here. Surly getting rid of dumb rules like passing the runner in front qualifies as something that needs changing. Having that play reviewed took extra time that MLB has been trying to eliminate.
  4. I can't help but think that some kids at the ball park tonight will become life long Sox fans. What a fan friendly game. Tons of fireworks and fans going nuts. Best game of the rebuild.
  5. They admit their mistake and move on. We don't need to look at Santana ever again.
  6. Really unusual comment. Hope he's right.
  7. I would have understood the Alonso pickup if we didn't already have Palka. There is a premium on lefty power but we didn't need it.
  8. Try him in the rotation in place of Nova.
  9. That starting rotation plus Madrigal & Robert and you have a team worth watching.
  10. I have a tendency to like Sox players look positively at their talents. This guy Nova is easily my least favorite player. Terrible results and I hate his mound gyrations. Slow working pitchers are annoying.
  11. Losing doesn't breed fan interest or garner new fans. Hahn and his team of evaluators need to understand that watching players who are really utility level does not hold fan interest. I am a good enough fan that I watch every game every inning. Yet, I've started reading a book while keeping an eye on the game. How is anyone suppose to be interested in Nova walking around the mound in a trance while getting shelled? White Sox management does have a responsibility to keep the product entertaining while the rebuild happens.
  12. So who is the talent evaluator who makes the final call on who we acquire? I know in the case of Machado/Harper that JR is the final call. Everyone agrees that both players have pluses. The disagreement comes in when we discuss how high to go in salary negotiation. Does RH get a scouting report on Alonzo and say we'll give him 9 mill and an option or is Kenny & JR in on it. How about when it's only 4 mil for Santana. Someone must be the talent evaluator and that person isn't very good sometimes. Neither RH or JR are baseball skills evaluators. Just like most of us... they watch lots of games and have their opinions. Someone is being paid to be that baseball evaluating professional. If it's Kenny I would like to know. Someone has to have looked at Nova, Santana and Alonzo and decided we were getting good value for the money. If what they are really doing is group think then the group needs to be held accountable.
  13. I wonder how JR feels about our talent evaluation team? We do make our fair share of evaluation mistakes. In no way do I think Jay, Alonzo or McCann are big mistakes. Hahn brought them here as veteran influence on a young team. By the end of the year they will probably all perform to historic levels. Nova and Santana are unwatchable. You could bring up anybody to replace them without losing one extra game. If I were JR...7 mil for Nova or 4 mil for Santana would have me very unhappy.
  14. To answer the original question...sure lets try it... anything is better than beating you head against the wall every 5th day. I've said it before but I've never seen a really good pitcher work slow and I can't remember a bad pitcher who works fast. Don't overthink it....just throw the ball where the catcher tells you to.
  15. This is the only offseason move I just hate. James Shields could have been half the money and I would have only hated it half as much.
  16. Tilson is a younger and cheaper Jon Jay.
  17. Part of being a fan is drinking the Kool-Aid.
  18. We're fans. We take the good with the bad. Doesn't mean we have to like the bad.
  19. I hope we don't see this lineup again. Some teams believe in stacking the best hitters this way but it leads to solo Home Runs and multiple innings of nothing.
  20. Nova at 9 million is the one that I choke on.
