No...he's not major league ready. Not a bad thought however.
-
Over the years it seems the team receiving the most players loses the trade in hindsight. I'll take quality over quantity every time. These 5 for 1 deals make me cringe. I want the two best players Getz can get...and one of them should be starting in right field for the 2024 team.
-
This is sad but true.
-
A watched pot never boils. Take that.
-
Yankees scare me. Their prospects are always over promoted.
-
The Cease deal needs to have next seasons starting right fielder and a 2nd baseman or starting pitcher with upside. I definitely prefer any deal have two high quality and ready for the majors' players rather than someone's idea of a haul (4 or 5 players from down the food chain) has no interest for me.
-
Good...let's just keep him.
-
ESPN has him identified as a CFer. Ya just can't trust anyone these days.
-
Does anyone know if Cowser has a right fielder's arm. I know his range is good since he is primarily a Center Fielder.
-
Yep...Gio getting almost 20 million for 2 years say all you need to know about Cease and his value.
-
Noone is saying start both.

Madrigal was traded...not dumped. A team like our WS have the funds for maybe 6 or 7 high-priced so-called stars (12-25 million) and the rest need to be useful players (1-10 million) types. Both Lopez and Madrigal play multiple positions reasonably well. Both can run a little and have OBP in the mid .320's, which would be among the leaders on the white sox. I love that Madrigal has many extended at-bats which help ware down the opposing team's starter IMO. I am aware that I come from the go-go era of white sox baseball and that undoubtedly colors my viewpoint that little slap hitters can be useful.
-
Why not? The Cubs are deep in outfield prospects and Madrigal is available. Covers our 2 biggest needs realistically.

Thank you for your "opinion."

Well stated "opinion."
-
Opinion defined is a view or judgement formed about something not necessarily based on fact. Of course, it's refutable. In the collective mind of professional scouts, he was among the best players in his draft class. He was fast tracked to the majors and almost immediately had injury problems. In my "opinion"...the jury is still out on his worth.

For the reason you stated. Competiton drives up the return.

Giolito to the Red Sox, 2 years $38.5 million, Y1 opt out

Fans never want to overpay. We want to give up half a dozen crap players for the other guy's star. The best trades are Dick Allen for Tommy John straight up type deals. I have a need...you have a need. We have a need for a high-quality right fielder, and a high-quality second baseman. Whoever can best fill that order can have Cease IMO. I know that we can use some high-quality pitchers as well...but we aren't going to receive 3 high end players for 2 years of Cease. -
Thanks for the enlightened "opinion."
-
Thant's why I ended my comment with IMO. Now we have your "opinion."

Sox sign P Chris Flexen, DFA Carlos Perez

Seems like Getz is stockpiling projects for Bannister and his veteran catchers. Might just work with a few of these guys. -

Well...I agree with the swell dude part. -
I remember Carlos Lee for Scotty Pods got this same reaction. Lots of different types can make a really good team. Unless your team can buy the best player available at every position...compromises need to be made. Madrigal will end up being a very useful player one of these days IMO.

What I mean is I prefer major league ready players rather than a year or two away. Also, quantity is not as important as quality.
