Remember when we needed to unload Avi Garcia because he had gotten too expensive at 4 or 5 million? Escobar is not 3 times the player that Avi is IMO. Like any person who gets raises year after year...eventually you get more expensive than your talents warrant.
Number #1 priority is a quality reliever. Number 2 would be a quality reliever. Second base would be my third priority and the fourth would be the outfielder. Guy's like Bryant are interesting because of versatility and shortness of contract IMO.
On a consistent basis, I want Eloy at DH with Vaughn in Left and Engel/Sheets in RF. Get Escobar and you have a well-balanced lineup regardless of the pitcher's handedness.
Our lineup goes from lousy to awesome when we get the 3 guys back and Escobar type at 2nd just makes it scary. The bullpen needs at least 1 top arm and two would be better.
Remember how bad we felt after being swept in Houston? A week later we were feeling cocky and self-satisfied. It's never easy to feel good after getting outplayed in every way. Keep the faith that the FO is working on our shortcomings as we speak. Help is on the way.
This was my takeaway from tonight's game. We can see the improvement as Vaughn matures into a real ballplayer with each additional game. Until reinforcements arrive this lineup puts me to sleep,
